Whenever a thermal shows up on the classifieds it's always the same story, bow is drop dead gorgeous, silent and fast but then everyone says they can't get used to the grip. What is different about the grips on these bows? They look pretty standard in all the pics I've seen. What about them takes getting used to?  Thanks  Greg

Well, I've had my Thermal for going on 6 years now and don't hav a problem with the grip.  I have a wide hand with kinda short fingers so it is a bit large in circumference for me, but otherwise fits well.  It is a bit smaller than the Sky Hunter bow I had, best I can remember about the same size as the Widow and the Bob Lee bows I had.

The Thermal has been the only wood takedown recurve I still have and I don't see that changing. It has been one of the fastest wood recurves I've had the pleasure of shooting.

To me the limbs are what makes this bow, not necessarily the riser - it is wood after all and sandpaper can cure a ill-fitting riser  ;)

Actually, I don't worry about how the bow is as long as I can shoot it accurately. The Thermal does that.

I don't own a thermal but have shot them.  I was fortunate enough to spend some time in Whitefish MT and met Ric and shot some of his bows.  I thought the grip was great, they are definately really nice bows.

I really wanted to order a new thermal but after several attempts I recieved one email from him and then sent him more emails back and NEVER heard back again. So now I will probly just order a new tip or blacktail. Was very dissapointed to say the least.
The man who thinks he can and the man who thinks he can't are both right!!!

Robhood-did you try calling him-I had better luck getting him on the phone.

I have called every single bowyer that I thought about or did order a bow from,,, they've always picked up so far.

Been looking at the Thermal too,,, man do they remind me of Silvertips.

They are a lot like the Silvertip-Ric learned from Paul Schafer-that being said, I did like the grip on my silvertip better and I think the thermal grip could be improved.

I like the grip ok. It doesnt have enough wood in the palm swell, I think my mentor has a better grip......but I love my thermal. Ric is super hard to get a hold of. You just have to keep calling him and dont expect to get your bow very soon, but he does stellar work!

I have my second Thremal on order should be here in Aug. I hope

The one I had was very similar to a Schaffer.  BILL

I love the grip on my Thermal. "Big Medicine" has never failed to kill every critter I have shot with it with one arrow. You gotta love a bow that bats a thousand.

RobHood- Ric has had extreme technical problems with his e-mail account for quite some time and nobody can figure out how to fix it. I would suggest calling.

Here's a pic of a Marriah Thermal Ric built for me.  I sold it, bought it back and sold it again.  He's building another with 5-6# less draw weight for me.

The woods starting from the top of the pic are Shedua, Maple, Purpleheart, Bloodwood, Purpleheart, Maple, Bubinga, Maple, Purpleheart, Bloodwood, Purpleheart, Maple, and Shedua.

I have owned several Marriah Thermals over the years and the grips all worked great for me.  I have very small hands and I am very pciky about grips.  The only reason I have sold them is that I am a consummate bow trader ;-)
