Sorry Kevin.  I had that happen once too!  I had made a bow for a fund raiser for a local high school.  Brought it to the auction and the guy running the auction pulled it back and it seemed like he never stopped pulling until Kaboom.

That's a hard lesson to learn, Kevin! Same thing happened with my first board bow. Man, I feel for ya!  :dunno:

His famous last words,,
"I barely pulled it back"....

All I could think was, yep, only barely past your ear..
The bow wacked him pretty good...

Lucky no one was seriously hurt.

The only bad thing was that I had traded a rainbow obsidian skinning knife for that yew almost 13 years ago..hard to get yew in Alaska..

Thats just brutal. I learned that same lesson some time ago too. Handed my bow to my GF's father to check out. I figure he wont draw that far cause he's about my height right? WRONG! Apparently he's on of those guys who shoots a compound thats liek 2-3" too long in draw length, like back of your head anchor point. He cranked that sucker back to ... had to be 29". backing lifted a splinter down to the glue line of the belly and that limb hinged badly.

He just held it at ancher ..... I was speachless. Lesson learned. From then on no-one shoots my wood bows except with an arrow thats only long enough for the rated draw length.

Ouch, I know the feeling.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

i planned on putting together a practice run bow before i build my trade bow because ive never built a recurve before and this is my second take down ever too so alot of new uncharted water for me. i managed to get it all put together and ruffed out last night. i ran out of time and need a little work on the tips before i can shoot it. the limb design was created by budd hitt and he and i have been in contact since i started building bows as he only lives 10 minutes from me.
