Did I do IT?!

I've been trying to post from photobucket for #@$!!&^&! weeks.    :banghead:

All Right! Damn I must be dumb.
Anyway, This is a pic of my second attempt at a trade bow for *****.  It is a bamboo backed osage. In the pic it is pulled to 26" and holding 57 lbs, or so. Since this pic was taken, last week, I've tillered out to 28" and sanded quite a bit.
Tomorrow I'll recheck the draw weight, sand a little more, shoot a lot more, and maybe start on a finish.

SportHunter

Nice tiller Red, looking forward to seeing it finished up.

red hill

Thanks, SportHunter. Just hope I can post other pics... Faster. I shot about 2 dozen arrows this afternoon and it performed well. No hand shock or excessive noise.

WestTexan

Yes sir Red it looks perfict to me. Dang I've missed a lot but I do check things out on my phone... It's been a bad last 6 weeks for me several trips to the doc and an operation on one of my daughters.... Nothing real bad just her foot. Quite a few trips up to Amarillo with a sick father inlaw and he finally give in and past away last week and my mother had by pass surgery last Friday and she seems to be doing pretty well now. Any way hope to get back in the saddle and get some wood movin.

KellyG

westTexan sorry to hear about all them health issues. I will keep your family in my prayers.

Nice lookin' tiller, Red!
I shot mine a hundred times or so, got my tips and handle shaped, got the finish on, and now I just need to wrap the handle and decide on an arrow rest. Here's a few progress pics for all you picture junkies out there.

Red, she looks real good to me.  On the pic posting, don't beat yourself up.  I spent about two years trying to figure it out.  :banghead:

I did get some skins on my tradebow.  Along with the handle wrap and a coat of oil.  I hope ************** don't lay it down in the woods.

David Flanrey

Vanillabear, that is a beauty!  Those tips are stunning.  Do you use a hand file?

David Flanrey

Coaster,
Those were two of the biggest copperheads I had seen in a while one was 34" and the other was 31".  They sure do give you the willies when you just happen on to them.  :scared:

vanillabear?

Thanks Coaster   :)
Thanks David   :)   Yes, I used a farriers rasp, file, and sandpaper. Love the copperheads!

KellyG

Man copperheads are going to become endangered with this lot. But they s

I am close to getting mine on the short string. Had I not errr did such and aggressive bend in my tip It would be on the short string and most likely close to a brace.

I must have scraped each limb over 200 time already.

Looking real good fellas, love that profile bear.
Some really nice looking work this year, love all the snake skin bows, def. going to do one of those myself someday.

I love fools' experiments. I am always making them.

SportHunter

Great work guys, some sharp looking bows getting done.

red hill

Thanks, guys. The bend is even better now at 28".

I was taking the string off this afternoon once I had shot a couple dozen times and... One of the osage tip overlays had chipped!

It didn't take long to grind the old tip off and glue on a new block of osage. Only took about 45 minutes to shape a new tip and get it sanded.

I plan to shoot quite a few more rounds, add 6-8 coats of tru-oil, a leather handle wrap and an arrow rest.

See if I can't get a few updated pics posted tomorrow.  :p

Nice skins, David.
Where are you in Arkansas?

West texan, you hang in there.  Our prayers are with you.

Red, I am in Paragould, bout eight miles from MO line.  I'm about as far north as you are south and still in Arkansas.

Put another coat of oil on my bow today.  Started a little something extra for my trade.  Post pics when I get it finished.
