I do like to leave the fade area till I get the transition of the R/D to bending.
What I see is it takes a bit to get the R/D to bend but once,it starts it comes along fast.
I haven't been pre-tapering my boo and Ipe but it would certainly speed things up. One reason I'd like a edge, sander.

Like Mac says, once the reflex comes around, it's just like tillering a straight limb bow. At a 6 inch brace height the limbs will appear a little flat, that's normal.

Keenym, the only reason Roy calls them hand tools is because someone hands them to him   :readit:

I can't get over how much fun it is to shoot a bow from my own to hands. Gave my trade bow a workout along with my new BBO for turkey hunting. Both spit an arrow out right where I am looking. Still need to find the right arrow for the trade bow and finish her up. I may even take her out a few times during the turkey season.

To see an arrow fly from my own bow is amazing. Just thought I share that with ya.

It is more fun, isn't it Justin? I have a number of bows I've bought over the years but they just don't even feel as good to me when I shoot them now.

Thanks for the tillering tips Mac and Roy. I hope to start on it tonight.

Finally got a new motor on my bandsaw, and got a nice big package from Mr. Kenny M today!  Gonna do two bow glue ups tomorrow - one for my trade bow, and one 60" recurve for my bro.  Got some good glue this time too.  I'm done with that other stuff.

One of two things will happen; it'll either work or it won't.

Had some time after work so I got 5 longbows ready to glue up, risers are in a safe place...

Well, yesterday, I watched as lumbermen cut down trees in the WMA where I hunt deer & turkey.  They are not select cutting, it looks like a scorched Earth process.  I am so unhappy with this, but understand business.
To err is human, so keep practicing!

Well, todays events are basically a run over from last night. Went to an auction with hopes of buying a piece or two of equipment. Needless to say the equipment went higher than my bank account could handle.  :bigsmyl:

Trux Turning

That's a score Troy. I began glueing up another riser today.

Troy D. Breeding

Trux,

Cut afew pieces to length and ran them thru the sander to get a better look at the grain. Looks like I might have lucked out on part of the load. Some is flat grain and really looks good. others are edge grain and will be better used as core wood between veneers.

I'll show some pics in afew minutes. I need to upload.

Got the pics uploaded.

I wiped them down with denatured alcohol so the grain would show better.

Some of the material has a darker tone to it.

Still, grain like this along with a few good solid knots, I think I may have something.

I LOVE the BL Troy ground for me this past winter. IMHO the best lambo wood hands down, way better than #2 (yew) Good to see I don't have to cut and cure my next lot!!!
