Lewis... I use long steel adapters in my Magnus I's.
I just cut a slot in the adapter. Have used a hacksaw, cutoff blade in a Dremel and lately with a metal cutting blade in my band saw.
Pretty easy to do and you don't really sacrifice any strength.

Anyone using the Magnus Stingers with the bleeder blades? The bleeders are sharp on both sides. They leave a nice hole.Just had to share that with everyone.

Charlie,
Last time I used a Magnus I with the bleeder (1994) the penetration was not quite what I wanted. But, it did manage to stop the kitty (temporarily) at three yards. I think the total weight of the arrow, 415 grains, might have influenced the results though. One of these days I will take the time to write the details of that hunt and post them. When told in person (usually over a few beverages), it gets a good laugh and few blank stares of disbelief.

Walt... I'd love to hear that story! Write it down for the Gang, but one day I want to hear it over those beverages.

Yeah! I am up for a good story. For a long time I had one of Walt's kitty pictures (up in the tree) as my screen saver...

Dave, I'm using the Stinger 150 grain 4-blade. I've gotten very good performance using the 125 grain 4-blades and just retuned my arrows for the 150s for a little better FOC. Stingers fly beautifully, are easy to keep scalpel sharp and have a lifetime guarantee.

Okay,
I wrote a condensed version of the story this morning and will post it under the title of "Unicorn Kitty".
Steve, I p.m. you a copy.
Charlie, Anytime, and the beverages are on me.

I'd like to be around that campfire when Walt and Charlie are telling tales. I'd be happy to provide the beverages. With that said I have had good success through the years with the old Bear Razorheads, with bleeder blades, the Magnus 125 two blade and the three blade Thunderhead 125 (compound days).I've gotten complete pass throughs with all of the above on deer, turkeys and hogs, when I did my job and put the arrow where it counts. In 2008 I will be hunting with the Muzzy Phantom 125 four blade. No reason other than I just want to give them a try.

WOW, I think I'm sold on bleeders!!!!! Thanks guys, I appreciate the info. I plan on using a really high FOC at around 20% so, all in all, with the extra weight I think penetration will be fine. I also just today got 5" parabolic feathers to keep it steady. I have only used magnus BH's since I went Trad and I really like the lifetime replacement idea.
Thanks to all and don't hesitate to keep posting!!!!
Have a good one, HH
P.S. I think I have officially changed to a Longbow man! Buddy of mine (The Vanilla Gorilla) has let me borrow one of his reflex deflex and I am digging it!!!! Gonna have to get me one asap.....

Why would you want to use a punch-through trocar tip when there are so many really good cuton contact heads available??? Everyone knows cut on contact is far better for penetration.

Mark Land has taken many animals with a Trocar tip Muzzy. Including Bear, Deer, Hogs and I believe Elk. Thats with a recurve and I dont think he shoots more than 55# but I could be wrong about that.
He says he sharpens the trocar tip and its a great head.

I use cut on contact heads, but if all I had was a Muzzy to use, I wouldnt feel at a disadvantage. I used to shoot them when I shot with wheels and they are great heads. Probably one of the toughest heads made in my opinion.
It is true that you can sharpen the Trocar tips to improve penetration. They dont quite equal a true cut on contact for piercing ability, but they will cut.
