Hi all, just curious:

What criteria do you use when buying a broadhead, and what cutting diameter do you use, and for what game?

Deadsmple

1 cut on contact
2 durability
3 bigger is better
4 heavier is better

in that order for any North American game animal

Personally,  I like a 2 blade, cut on contact that is sharp as all get out. I like em to be moderately wide, somewhere around 1 1/4" wide, and heavy.

I really like a head that has a triple thick tip, and the thicker the better. Less chance for tip deformation on contact with bone.

Some of the best, IMO, are the STOS 160, Ace 160 standard, Eclipse 145, and Ribtek 145.

This year, my quiver has Eclipse 145 gr. It has a smooth, teflon coated ferrule, takes a great edge, has a very thick tip for its weight, and is 1 5/16" wide. Fits all my criteria, although I would like to see it in 160 gr.

Don't laugh
I like them built strong, easy to sharpen to a very sharp edge, and I need to believe in them, so how they look or what they look like also counts.

I seem to like two blades, slightly narrowed like a Stos.  I have been doing this to both Zwickey Deltas and Magnus I's.  I have a bunch of heads I try, but I keep going back to those I just described.

I look for a 2 blade glue-on head, solid steel design (no moving parts), cut on contact design, reputable name, NO STUPID VENTS!!!. Yep, that's me.

I shoot Phantoms and Razorcaps because:

they are stainless
they shoot very accurately (they  mount straight)
they are multibladed
they get and stay scary sharp
they are tough, the RC's are better in that catagory
they are available in varying weights
they penetrte like crazy

wingnut

Excellent arrow flight and an exit wound.

My choice is a WW 125.

The first thing I look for is the weight I want. Since that's 125 grains for the time being, it's not really a problem.

Beyond that, I want a head that's easy to sharpen, tempered uniformly (doesn't have little spots on the blades that won't take an edge), holds its edge well, good QC and tight tolerances (every head is exactly like the next one), is extremely durable and mounts straight.
