Have been chatting with a fellow about one of Jay St Charles yew longbows. It is 50#@28"..... now my draw length is 27.5" but if I understand correctly shooting a longbow correctly with a low wrist you lose 1"-1.5" correct? I know at my draw length of 26-26.5 it wouldnt be 50# but is it still feasible for someone like me to productively shoot this bow? Thanks, Craig

Generally, your draw length will decreasse if you go from a pistol grip to a straight grip.  It may be as much as 1.5 inches if you shoot with a very high wrist now, but more likely about half that.

Regardless, you'll only lose a few pounds in draw weight, ending up on the plus side of 45#.  A good weight for targets and critters.

I have evolved to shooting as short as 28 inches and as long as 31 inches depending on a number of factors. The bow will work fine.

I set out a while ago to reduce my herd of 40 bows...And I am finally down to 42

Remember it is arrows that kill not bows. Spend the time to achieve great form and then fine tune some great wood arrows. And btw read Jay's dad's books. Best thing I ever did for being realistic about draw length.

When I say evolved I really mean that. It has been an 8 year journey for me starting at age 57. And yes an old dog can learn new tricks.

My target form was 28.25", at first, my longbow form was 27".   I was told that was too long for Hill form, it was, I reduced it to 26.25" right hand and because of neck rotation issues, I am 26" left hand.  I am 5'10"(last time I checked, maybe less now), and my wing span is 70".
