The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

Happy birthday. That's a 'regifting' we'd all like to be a part of. Wow an original A handle, that's a great investment.

Nice. Did you or someone modify the shelf? I've never seen one rounded like that on one of the old ones.

tippit

OBXacher,
That's the way it came when I got it some 35 years ago. The wood side plate is routered with a screw in metal spring...hard to explain.  It looks like it was done at the factory but I removed it and covered the area with a piece of leather.

That lowered and radiused shelf is interesting.  From what I recall reading that is the way Fred preferred his personal bows be cut.  I'm not sure if that was an option on special oriders?
I know that Bowdoc often did that on bows that he refinished for people and I've done it on some myself.
Either way, that is one special bow, and personally I think it's great that it finally gets a chance to do what it was made for!

What a beautiful bow!!!!! Congratulations on the b-day!

You have incredible self control! There's no way I could leave that in my closet for 35 years. Beautiful riser.

shick

Jeff, it appears your Bear is a type II; adjustable plate and radiused shelf.  Is your s/n in the 2000 range?  Bowdoc modified my type I B to look like that.  Big improvement.

I've modified several Kodiaks and one TD to "Fred's grip". It does help a little but I shoot cock feather in and it's hard on my left knuckle.

tippit

Shick,
You are corect...serial #2078.  Thanks for the info.

myshootinstinks,
It's not that I have a lot of self control, it's more that I have a lot of bows and never needed to to shoot this one.  I also have a B riser with Fred, Frank, and Charlie's signature on it that I'll never shoot.  Plus a picture of Frank & Charlie holding the bow...very cool for a Bear collector.
