AN ARROW SONG

A song from green Floridian vales I heard,
Soft as the sea-moan when the waves are slow;
Sweeter than melody of brook or bird,
Keener than any winds that breathe or blow;
A magic music out of memory stirred,
A strain that charms my heart to overflow
With such vast yearning that my eyes are blurred.
Oh, song of dreams, that I no more shall know!
Bewildering carol without spoken word!
Faint as a stream's voice murmuring under snow,
Sad as a love forevermore deferred,
Song of the arrow from the Master's bow,
Sung in Floridian vales long, long ago.

Sorry to hear of this.  I really enjoyed his writings, he had a way with words that few people do.  By the way, his lentil soup recipe is incredible.

Very sad news, R.I.P. Dean. You will never be replaced. We are losing the greatest generation of traditional archers.

A very talented man that shared his thoughts and ideas freely.  Thank you Dean.

I always joked that I knew him before he was "famous".  My son and I sat around our fire at the ETAR watching him and Gordy Mikins try to set their camp up in the dark.  He never did let his little bit of fame change him, great guy.

TSP

A supremely gifted man, a true artisan with his hands and with his words.  An individual who epitomized what traditional archery is supposed to be, from the exquisitely crafted selfbows to the very philosophy by which he practiced his crafts.  Thoughtfulness, fun with family and friends, minimizing his contributions without fanfare or self-embellishment, taking unrelenting joy in his pursuit of the simpler aspects of archery and life in general.  Dean was a rare icon in a world of traditional archery than many had left behind, and perhaps never fully appreciated.  May his life, legacy and dedication be long-remembered.

Ghost Dog

Dean and I had been texting quite a bit over the last few months. He never responded to my last text.

Dean was archetypal for me.He was intelligent, skilful,educated,literate and articulate.In other words he was a rare man. I will miss him dearly.

Sad news indeed.  Always enjoyed his articles and have fashioned a few Torges seats myself over the years.

Prayers for his family and God speed Mr. Torges.
But be sure you live out the message and do not merely listen to it and so deceive yourself - James 1:22
