Giving in????? That's crazy. Go hunt, and if you need the tractor to get the deer out, use it!!!

I "gave in" and got a 2 wheel deer cart a few years ago. It's much easier than dragging. I used it this morning to haul one of my ladder stands 1/4 mile into the woods.

Just get a sled of some type to put the deer in when you pull it with the machine so you don't rub all the hair off. Just do it!

Heck no! You're accommodating for an aging body to keep doing what you love to do.  I can't hunt the same way I did prior to developing Crohn's disease by packing in solo for over a week at a time.  Nor can my grandfather still drag his own deer out but he can sure show up to camp, help with the chores, and hunt.  Our tools of the trade are not what defines the worth of our hunt.  It's the time/effort, passion, ethics of our hunting routines, and the bonds we share with the loved ones we hunt with that defines what type of hunter we are.

If I didn't give in I would have to cook and eat him to get him out.

Heck Dale, I'm 4 days older than you and I'm elk hunting. That's the deal, we ARE STILL HUNTING. That's how we breath new life into our selves, it's the journey, not the end result. If you need help, use it. One day of hunting is better than a dozen sitting on the couch thinking about it. Bow in hand , brother, bow in hand.

Funny thing , it has been mentioned that I could talk myself out of hunting .
Last year I did a couple times talk myself out of hunting that day because I was worried that I might get a deer and I didn't feel up to dealing with it .
That's almost funny because I can remember my dad saying "what if I get a deer ? " and he wasn't joking .
I guess I could also do what my late hunting partner used to joak about . He would say " just camp out with it and eat it on the spot "

You are not alone; I've had deer dead to rights and let them walk because I didn't feel like dealing with them and already had one in the freezer. I just whisper bang when I would have shot and claim it as a dead deer and get up and walk out.

You only have one back. Once its wrecked dragging deer won't be the only thing you won't be doing. No shame in making any hard work easier.

Doc Nock

Lots of things draggin a deer can undo in homo sapien...

I busted up tendons in both elbows and it's really been bad juju. Same with back.  Even the 2 wheelcarts start to wear on you over time...

When I can't pull a bow no mo, there are other options... Go while/where/why you can...fooey on the naysayers. You don't need anyone's permission!

Do it, heck I really admire you for finding a way to still be in the woods.

Great Idea!

Heck some still call me young (38) and fit.

I wouldn't put it past myself to use a lawn tractor to drag a deer. In winter I pull my kids in a sled with my Cub cadet.   :)

In fact you just got me thinking...

Thanks!

On my property, I always use the easiest method of getting game out.  It is more to save time than anything else, but you don't get extra points for dragging a carcass around.  If I ever get an elk, I will have no choice but to pack it out, buy I have dragged my share of deer and hogs, and won't do it unless there is no better alternative.

"Or should I just not hunt anymore ?"

Heck, you just hunt til you can't get out of the house, then try to call the deer up close.

You stay right with em and don't worry about what anyone says.

You need a stout young person to take with you for drag duty.   :)
Stay sharp, Kenny.
