With all due respect to some very knowledgable archers here, this is the wrong place to get your shoulder problem diagnosed.  I have graduated medical school, and spent time in orthopedics (although admittedly not for several years), and I wouldn't waste my time or yours diagnosing a problem on someone I haven't examined in person. There are already some interesting takes on applied anatomy above.

If this is causing you a significant problem, back off what you are doing and see a specialist. If it's not causing a significant problem I would still back off, and spend some time on common sense shoulder stretches and exercises.
So what your saying an archer should be aware that the arm bone is connected to the shoulder bone? Got it.  :biglaugh:

We older guys have all kinds of proverbs rolling through our brains, "A stitch in time saves nine," "penny wise and pound foolish," etc. I've had three rotator cuff surgeries, over a year off work, AND play. and MRI is well worth the money...

Hey Dennis, first of all I'm not a coach or a doctor... Always remember the A,B,C's of archery, Always Be Comfortable. If something is hurting you, don't force it. It sounds that your body doesn't agree with your new form, or your bow is too heavy for your new form. Either way, at the very least take a break.

Years back I had a bad shoulder injury, the doc told me I could get surgery or try working out with light weights to build the muscles around my shoulder. Well I went with the work out program. Today my shoulder is the least of my shooting problems.

Good luck my friend and go see the doc if your pain continues.

I have also been having pain close to the same area. It came on quick and is just flat painful to shoot. Funny thing is I can do anything else without pain except shoot. I took the advice of others and saw a specialist. Initial x rays did not confirm anything so I have a MRI scheduled for Monday. Dr is not sure but thinks it could be a 'slap tear" or bicep tendon. What ever, got to get it fixed fast...

Try a recurve or high wristed bow design...I think you'll find it makes a difference
