Tick Clothing

Won't be long and the ticks will be back out in force. The last few years they have gotten bad enough in my area that I'm considering purchasing some protective clothing for use when working habitat plots, checking trail cams, etc.
I've heard Rynoskin garments mentioned on this site before, and I've checked it out. The reviews seem mostly favorable. Looking at pictures of the Rynoskin I can't help but wonder if something such as Under Armor wouldn't work just as well???
Thoughts on this? Are there other clothing products out there that do the same thing?

When we hunt in SC we treat our hunting clothes with Permethrin. It's effective and last thru a number of washings.

Check out cabelas bugz skinz.  They are light weight and work well.

 I have worn them year around and they not to warm.

Been using permethrin for several years. Can use it on any clothes, including socks. Works great.

Permethrin works great. I've sat and watched ticks crawl up my pants leg, they get maybe 8 to 10 inches and fall off dead.

I also agree with the permethrin.  Last weekend while in the woods I had no less than 100 ticks on me. every time I looked at my pants I had 8-12 on them.  I did not bring any home.  I only use the spray on my pants and do good tick checks after I leave the woods.

Also Listen to Big Game Fish. He hunts the same area I do and works outside. I bet that product he mentions works well. But you probbaly will still bring the ticks home with you.

another friend uses the skinz and then tosses all his clothes in the dryer on high heat. then empties the full of ticks, lint trap out. He said its usually at least an inch deep.

Permethrin is the basic defense against ticks. Spray your clothes, hat, boots, etc. even if you use bug suits. I also tuck my pants into my snake boots, which also helps.

I know guys are tired of me discussing the Alpha Gal allergy, but it is a nasty situation caused by ticks and sometimes by chiggers. The effect is that it makes you allergic to all mammalian meat and other products like soaps, clothing, perfumes, and even some medications that contain animal collagen. It can be very life threatening, and there is no cure. I have it, and it is bad stuff. My friends, please don't take any chances. Here in the South ticks are a threat all year long.

Does anyone have any experience using permethrin on wool, leather, and/or rubber? I would hate to trash my wool pants or my LL Bean boots. I know being careful helps but does not prevent tick encounters. While I have yet to find a tick on me or on a deer I have downed, I want to be prepared for the eventuality.

Michael, I use it on all these things regularly. No problems at all and is effective on all of them. You are wise to take precautions even though you have had no problems so far.

I use permethrin and rhinoskin clothing from bass pro shop.

Just got back from fishing and got 4 ticks off me so far. I haven't found any clothes that work. I do wash with some homemade lye soap that will knock them off when you get home. Permathrin is good but I can't use it anymore , Be careful with it though because It put me in the hospital as I was spraying it around some barns. Had inhalation of it messed up my red bloodcells and oxygen blood count.

Permethrin is a very effective tick deterrent, just use it in accordance with the directions.

I, too, started using permethrin last year and was very pleased with its effectiveness.

Question for those of you that use a combination of the "tick-tight" clothing and permethrin; worth it?
Those of you that use just permethrin; do you feel that's enough, or do you think you'd be better served using the clothing, too?

When I moved back to Oklahoma a few years ago I "forgot" about the ticks after being gone for 20 years.  Took the family out a couple times and was QUICKLY reminded about them...as well as the chiggers.  As a teenage camp counselor I once had over 100 chigger bites over my entire lower body from the waste down.  NOT FUN!  I did not want to revisit that. I found out about the Permethrin here on Trad Gang and was amazed by how well it worked. I followed the directions and treated pants, shirts, boots and socks. Next few times out....no ticks...no chiggers.  None!   I was pretty impressed.  I never thought about buying clothes for bugs. Tuck your pant legs, maybe a little bug juice around your neck and good to go. With that and a thermacell I had no problems.  
   Having said that...now that I'm back in the NW....I will NOT miss the chiggers OR the overwhelming amount of ticks in the south.  I hear they are out here but I've never had problems with them like Oklahoma.  Mesquitos and biting flies, however, are a different story!!

I use the bugz skinz from Cabelas too and have had no issues so far. I probably have had them for around 8 years now. It makes me look like a super hero. I just need a cape! LOL
