Nate and Rik-

If Ben's thinking Idaho 2012 for some hunting and stump shooting, is there enough room for a Hill bow toting Floridian?

I'd try to make the trip(if invited) to join in on the fun with this group.

I think I could learn a bunch.

Archery isn't something I do, it's who I am!
The road to "Sherwood" makes for an awesome journey.

Nate Steen .

Welcome Gents.....in fact, the North American Longbow Safari is in Idaho this year, near my hunting/stomping grounds....around the fourth of July as usual.  It'd be great to see you guys there.  There's always room for side bets and stumpin' off the tourney grounds... :)   it's the most fun you can have at a shoot...no scoring, nor field points...just longbows and broadheads into 3d targets in hunting shot scenarios.

now if you're into hunting/stumping...that's in the fall and there's lots of info to discuss.

Rik...to quote Mr. Hill when he made a bow for Mr. Stotler..." you don't think I would make a bow for you that's better than the one I made for myself do you?"....Rik,  I didn't put all the mojo in your bow.  I know how to keep my bows more full of mojo than ones I send out....isn't that part of the perks?

Mudd,  it sounds like Dave can help you in that special quest....it's just taking some more of your coffee can money.  It's sounds like a very special bow for sure.

Nate-

Have you've been to NALS before? It sounds like a lot of fun. However, I would rather be in the company of you other Hill enthusists, while we hunt and roam the mountains on a quest for some live animals.

"THE" North American Longbow Safari?

You mean the longbow-only shoot that alternates between the U.S. and Canada each year?

The one where all the best longbow shooters/collectors/maniacs in North America and Europe converge in one place for almost a week of camping in the mountains and doing longbow stuff?

The one where people make selfbows with the help of master bowyers?

The one where all shooting is done with broadheads?

The one with all the running targets and those foul steel targets that eat arrows?

The one where all the Hill bow guys camp in canvas tents and tease each other mercilessly while shooting each others' bows?

That's going to be in the Rocky Mountains this year?

In Idaho?

Most likely at a ski resort with chair lifts?

Surely you jest!

Rik

P.S. For those of you who aren't in the know, the world's first chair lift was in------yes, you guessed it------an Idaho ski resort.

Overspined

I was reading through some of the sections of this thread and wondered about the brace heights everyone has commented on...

How do you settle on a brace height that is outside the range of recommendations by the bowyer?

I ask this because if I change my brace height, I usually change the way the arrow I am using shoots. So, if I shoot the same bow with the same arrows, and decrease my brace by an inch, my arrows start flying weak. So how do you find a brace height outside of the recommendations without a whole lot of playing around with arrow, head, and brace height changes???

All,
It sounds to me as if Ben has issued a challenge and a destination has been suggested. All we need now is an acceptance from the boys down under. ( I have always wondered: UNDER WHAT?  :)  )

Anyway, what a great idea. If we could all meet at NALS it would be an easy way to put to rest the idea that some of you are trying to suggest; that you can actually shoot a longbow!

The last NALS I attended was in Utah along time ago and as a matter of fact, thats the last organized archery shoot I have gone to. Living in Alaska does that to ya.....

I seriously hope that as many of us as possible can swing this....it would be a great way to meet everyone.

My problem is , after several years of corrospondence with Messirs Steen and Hinton I have become quite fond of the two gents , and as such would just feel awful making them look bad ...
With my dazzling display of target panicked , short drawn snap shooting I fear they would take up skeet shooting with a side by side for fear of never attaining the heights of accuracy I'll deliver ...

But it looks as though I'll turn up and represent my country ...

Now what bow to bring ? Widow PLX , Longhorn ? Perhaps a nice 56" Shrew ?

Questions , questions .....

You cannot hit skeet with the PLX Widow, better bring the Shrew.

overspine, I played with this a little with a bow Nate made me.  I was outside of it, and talked with him.  I got back inside as I always try and stay in where the Bowyer says(they know the bow better than anyone).  As I am adjusting bracehieght, I am looking at arrow flight and listening.  Once there, I find that if little loud, I can do some small tweaking to get it perfect.

Nate, RIK, I will work on my nephew and see about getting out there to the Safari.  At least would give everyone someone to laugh at as they shoot.  Never been and am kind thinking hard about it now.  How many arrows? one or two, wink.

Shinken

My last NALS was at Brownsville, OR, but 2012 could be the year for one in the great potato state - especially if a critical mass of TG'ers was going to have a rendezvous?

This could be a most-excellent outing!

Arras must be tipped with BHs at NALS Toddster - it *is*  a good shoot!

And Flu-flus are tipped with field points.

The wife was talking about visiting family in Seattle, maybe I could talk her into Idaho for a few days first! Sounds like a chance to learn from the masters and destroy a few arrows.

Those boys wouldn't think too fondly of you if you showed-up with one of them fancy-schmancy non-D longbows, Mr Maher... it may even cause an international incident.
