This was a spring turkey hunt that turned into a sucker shoot when we discovered a creek full of spawning suckers. My buddy Doug was shooting my 85# Big-5 and I was using my John Lee 80# bamboo longbow.

Here's a video clip of me shooting some of those suckers. This was 28 years ago and I was more agile in those days..   :D

The road to "Sherwood" makes for an awesome journey.

The snake about to strike and actually bit Chris on the boot is a Big rat snake. He fell out of a water oak.Chris was playing and testing his snake boots on a fangless victom. We heard him hit the ground as he was about 8 feet from where we were standing. Imagine our surprise when we saw it was a snake. The one by the bow is a live copperhead I stepped on . He couldn`t bite me because luckly I stepped on his head.Almost wet my britches though. The last is a copperhead that is very much alive and laid up.RC

You're more likely to find a big rat snake stretched out on a tree branch than on the ground this time of year.

After a while you get used to the snakes...

Jeepers Batman!  I'm not sure I'm ready to go much farther south just yet.  Of course, I guess if it's where your experience is, you're aware of these things and they don't phase you.

I see myself stepping on a copperhead mid body, getting bit in the leg, stumbling around until I trip and fall into a creek with a hungry gator.

My neighbor is terrified of snakes, they make him scream like a girl.  Send me that big ole rat snake, it would like my yard.
