I'm looking at a nice Hill style. Maybe some of you guys can help push me over the edge! I've had a Hill with straight limbs, sold it. It was to short 60" & too heavy for me 65#@27" my falt. My question is this, how much difference in the amount of felt shock will I notice in the different limb profiles, straight, string fallow, back set?
I know there are alot of other factors, but just some opinions might be of help. Thanks

i'll throw in my limited knowledge ...

at a 27" draw length, yer gonna want a 66" hill style bow length, or longer.  that 60" you had was totally wrong.

the limbset design is up to you - backset (reflex), straight, or bellyset (string follow).  personally, i prefer the more gentle, forgiving properties of string follow.  at decent hunting distances (up to 25 yards or so), i've not seen any significant arrow speed differences 'tween the 3 limb designs, but ymmv.

as to the holding weight, that's up to you - but do be aware that most folks find that craig hill's are at least a few pounds over their labelled weight (some will have a lot more than a few pounds).  i've had more hill longbows than i have fingers and all were 3 to 7 pounds over the labelled weight.  just sayin' ....

anyhoo, come home to a hill style longbow and ENJOY!  :)

Thanks, I'm lookin at a 66" I draw about 27"1/2"
That 60" was just my second bow & I thought anything longer would be to long for hunting, wrong!

You know been reading this since it started. I'm having a real bad itch to have my MAII redone then post it in the classifieds just to get a string follow hill. Course all the photos aren't helping either. lol

I am kinda shocked that bow lasted as long as it did. You will like it I am sure of that. David makes a great bow and it will be ALOT different to shoot than the 60" from years ago.
CONGRATULATIONS and enjoy.

RLA ... i have a bow of matching specs from Dave Miller ... about as sweet a bow as you will buy. The build quality is amazing and it just seems to lob arrows into the target ... again and again.
Good choice

Can't wait to get it, I like shootin all types of bows,  This one should be super quiet, smooth on the draw & a blast to shoot, I'm pretty sure of that!
I'll be back with pic's when I get it, thanks for all the encouragement guys.

Sheesh Nate, I almost can't even dream of an elk hunt anymore but you sure did put the itch into me for a grouse hunt. that is some good eating and a great way to spend the day if you ask me.
when I was guiding in MT. I would fill the pot with my trusty .22pistola always wishin I had me a good bow instead. I did get to do some bowhunting for the fine blues and spruces for myself but not near enough.
Do you know any good grouse outfitters in ID???
