Well, This is the bow that I picked up in WI this past weekend.
I told you all how my buddy Brian and MR.Ron got me going down this happy trail. My first bow was a handful of Hill type made by Tim Meigs. This is my latest Meigs bow. It is quite different than what we see today I think. It is just over 1 1/4" wide and the grip is LARGE. Slight dish and 2 1/8" at the shallowest part. Very comfy and repeatable. Shelf is narrow at 3/8",That includes the leather wedge. the thing with the grip that is different to me is the fact that it is not straight on the sides but it is a buldged in the middle. As I said,it is very nice in the hand and the bow shoots great, even tho it has 1 1/4" of backset. I am very happy with the bow and hope you all enjoy the photos.

I like the looks of Rons bow as well, I have seen and shot some of Johns bows and they are very cool.

I found a temporary cure, got on the shrewhill list and am hoping this will keep the bug at bay for about 14 months. Well at least it's working for now   :biglaugh:

In the Art world, they call it commission, in the real world, it's called contract.

I thought, maybe Ron, would "commission", Chuck, to build them "Hill" bows!

Since, in another post, He said Keeping an eye on this guy!

Nice buy Chuck. 70's Hill, Big 5, was my first!

I under- estimated it's power on the first shot!  :bigsmyl:

Two tracks,

That's what I am talking about!  The grip, the Hill.  You are bitten!  You will be in full blown toxic overload when you drop the string on a critter with that straight grip, Hill!  Awesome bow.  Shoot the middle!

Here is something I have been thinking about with the grip shape.

This is showing grip on bow without bow.  Now look at the picture of chucks "new" Hill in the picture from above the grip looking down.  That is a fit.  Chuck let me know when you want to trade the bow! LOL!

You mean this Eye Frank?

This bow is  sweet. When I first grabbed the grip it was strange, but when I shot it,it was sweet. it is really really sweet.
I was bitten by this bug years ago,got side tracked for a time but I will be back and be back soon. Yes sir!

Do any of you use silencers on your Hills? Thought about it but this thing is crazy quiet without them... Shooting ~11.5 GPP though...

Yeah, is that "Chuckies" Step sister?  :D

If it is quiet, no need for the silencers.  These bows by design are quiet on the shot.  Lots and lots of critters have been taken with bows without hair, fur, or rubber in the string.

Nope, no string silencers on my Hills these days. Even with low-stretch, modern string materials, I think they're quiet enough, and as has been pointed-out already, bows were thought to be quiet enough for thousands of years without dampeners on the strings.

Yeah and don't put any out pictures of that Northern Mist or tell us how great those Misties shoot either.  I keep hearing enough of that from my son who is getting a Northern Mist Whisper.  I spose that yew Saxton Pope replica I am working on doesn't qualify either.  No worries, it's the thought that counts.

Not accoarding to Steve, the Shelton is/was inspired by Howards string follow design. I have a Shelton that Steve made for me several years ago and is has the "Hill style" look and feel, not to mention it's a very sweet shooter. I'm sure the Northern Mist Shelton would make Howard smile and I KNOW it's gonna make Ken smile...    :bigsmyl:

Pavan, I would like to see a replica of a Saxton Pope bow! Very cool!

this thread's title explains it all, and it has been an impetus for craig to become a trad gang sponsor.  that there is talk of other hill-style bows is ancillary, but apropos, and makes the thread that much richer.  however, that said, this IS a howard hill longbow thread.   :)
