Hello guys, I had a quick question.

I noticed when I was unstringing my Hill (with a stringer) a very small area in the bamboo around the string groove was chipped. Just under the overlay. The chip is maybe the size of the end of a pencil and there aren't any rough spots in the groove. Would this be a big deal?

I found the chip when I was pulling the string out of the groove and down the limb, it was stuck in my thumb and hurt!
as already mentioned, a pic or two would be good.

if you have the chip, it can be glued back with either quality cya (hot stuff, etc) or slow set epoxy (30 minute or longer), and be as good as new since those glues are stronger than the wood/boo itself.

Nice photos Ben. This time last year, I was in Australia having a blast with my Sunset Hill. Your photos remind me how much I like that place, and the adventures it holds. Gotta get back soon!

Best pics I could get...

Nice pics Ben!

stabow

I would just fill it with super glue and sand it smooth when dried and be done with it......stabow

exactly what stabow said.  use either thick gap filling cya or slow set epoxy.  the resulting fix will be as strong or stronger than the existing wood/glass.  and, there is no strength loss issue at that location - the only concern is to prevent future chipping/cracking.

Nate Steen .

KM,  I'd use thick gel super glue...loctite if possible...sometimes bamboo slivers off and that's what it looks like....

Man fellas....I'm gone for a couble of days working and lo and behold....the thread goes bigtime awesome!  big thumbs up!     very neat stuff and great photos.

I talked to Mudd the other day about a new vintage finish I'm trying to perfect,  I've had it pretty close in past bows, but now I think I've got it....he wanted some photos and I thought I'd get input from you gents.....the desired effect is the old 50's ivory colored glass, aged look.  Makes the bow look like your grandpa's....what'dya think?  compared to a slightly aged white glass bow...
