how do I thin Duco ?

The duco in my glue bottle is getting thick. What can I add to it to thin it out some?

Do you offload from the tube to a different bottle?

yes I empty  the tube into a glue bottle for less messy application. There are no clean up instructions on the packaging. It does say it contains acetone.Charlie Lamb told me what to use a few years ago but my memory lost it    I tried to contact him but am thinking my mail may be going to spam.

I'm thinking the acetone might work.  Checked mine and see that fingernail polish remover might work too.

I got these little spouts at hobby lobby.  Six for less than two bucks.  I was not liking Duco much till a member here suggested these.

Thanks for the spout tip! Those would eliminate the glue bottle problem for sure. Duco straight out of the tube can sure get messy.l'll have to get some of those to try. Thanks again!

My wife's fingernail polish remover says 100% acetone....

If acetone will work, you can buy a jug of acetone at the hardware store for about the same price as a small bottle of fingernail polish remover.  Acetone is pretty powerful stuff.  It will strip the feathers and glue off old shafts, and is the best stuff I've found for prepping aluminum shafts for fletching.  Because it is so powerful, I wonder if it would dilute the Duco, or maybe dissolve it instead?

Well, Roy, knowing that your boredom while recovering from surgery has you prowling the entire forum, I had to put those on since I couldn't find the wife's nail polish remover.  

That along with the glue tube on her tablecloth would have been double jeopardy.

I always used laquer thinner with no problems. Not sure why there is a problem contacting me.

I like to thin it to this consistency. Put a drop of the thinned glue between thumb and forefinger. When it's right it will "string" when fingers are separated.

I've emptied out a few tubes of Duco in my time. When it got thick in the application bottle I tossed it and started a fresh tube. To me, the glue getting thick was an indication that it wasn't fresh any more.

I like to thin the Duco as soon as I get it in the bottle so that it has the right consistency. That will improve how it flows from the bottle and onto the the feather quill. (the more evenly the glue goes onto the quill the neater the appearance of the fletch...no globs squeezing out) It also speeds drying.

Cant find the original packaging, but found this on the big bay.  The look very much the same as what I have and are a press on so it should be one size fits most.

Roy... you'll have to play it by feel. Just go slow with drops from a T spoon until the glue "strings" between thumb and forefinger.
