We have been busy killing some hogs and javelina.  There has never been a better time to be a hog hunter in west Texas.  Our hog numbers and kills are higher than ever.  I have agreed to extend our season one more week and have some room for a few more hunters the week of March 6-10.  We are a bowhunting only operation.

AAAArrrrgggg!!!!!!!!!!! I just scheduled a business trip for that week. I've been trying for a year to find time to hunt with Dragon Rider in his new home state of Texas. It would have worked. Damn!

what a great place! I was there last March and had a great time, even with not so great weather. I was so impressed with Jacob, his hard work and knowledge was amazing. I highly recommend the place, and will be back.

Looks like a great adventure for sure.

Just to tease you a bit.  This magnificent specimum of a hog was recovered yesterday morning. This is what I think a west Texas hog is supposed to look like.  He is a gnarly older scarred boar with good teeth.  Looks are deceptive.  I think he looks bigger than he is.  He weighed in at 208 lbs.  He would look even bigger face to face in the dark of night.  We do kill hogs bigger than this but not any better.

Was that hog killed at the Lumberyard?  Saw one like that over there last year.  At 9 at night I thought for a minute he was an angus cow.

This hog was taken from the middle of the eastern part of the ranch about 5 miles east of the refinery.  Its a big ranch and you may not have seen that part of it.

I would love to hunt West Texas again.

Especially if there are good Javvie numbers.

We have a limit of one javelina per hunter and about 40-50% of hunters take a javy.  When we started this camp we seemed to take a few more javies but not as many hogs as we do now.  There has been an explosion of hog numbers especially noticeable this year.  We have more hogs now than ever.  This burgeoning hog population may be crowding our javy herd.  We still have a reasonable expectation of getting a javelina, but that opportunity pales in comparison to the hog killing that goes on now.  Javelina season closes next week.
