I have a jig with 2 smooth metal posts spaced 2 inches apart.
Go around 16 to 20 times depending on the dia of the yarn.
Tie in the center with serving, slide off the posts, and install thru the center of the string.
With endless loop string (generally fewer twists) I use the serving tag ends to tie onto the string. They can still be slid if needed.
