I bought an old Shakespeare Necedah today. Nice bow and in nice shape. No stress lines at all!! It was pretty dusty and grimy but, a little furniture polish cleaned it right up. However, the previous owner had duct taped an old sight bracket onto the bow and well you can imagine what 20 year old duct tape residue is like! Lol!! Anyway I am thinking of using wd40 to remove it. Has anyone tried this? Do you think that wd40 will corrode this finish even if I wash it all off with dawn? Thanks in advance.

Try Goop-B-Gone.  I have had good luck using that getting tape residue off a lot of surfaces.

I removed some sticking stuff with rubbing alcohol and elbow greese. Really doesnt hurt finishes
Nothing clears a troubled mind like shooting a bow.

Best "gentle" gunk remover is odorless mineral spirits

You can hop but you can't hide.

Thanks guys! I have used wd40 to get rid of ancient rock hard duct tape adhesive and it works like a champ. Just never on a bow!

Believe it or not hair spray works on removing glue residue, & its really good for removing ink pen marks.

For old adhesive the best cleaner I have found is Ronston Lighter Fluid (napthalene).  Does not harm most wood finishes.

I also say use Goop-B-Gone. It will get a lot of sticky stuff off just about anything. I've used it to get rubber cement off my bow. It leaves a fresh citrus scent as well!
