Making grip on longbow smaller

I have a awsome bow I really love but the grip is a little chunky for my hand. What would I use to make it smaller. The part where the webbing between thumb and pointer finger rests. Thank you so much brandon

Be real careful you can weaken the grip.

I would contact the bowyer they can take it down foryou if it is safe for thebow and you. It will cost some but it may be worth it to not accidentally remove to much and weaken the riser.

The price is to steep for me to send out. I will try a rasp and some fine sandpaper I don't need to take off much

What is the draw weight? You want to be careful there bro... you could easily ruin a perfectly good bow.

Its a 50lbbow. The handle is just to big for me to get a consistent grip...not sure what else to do.

Work it down to your tastes. Start with 120 grit, then 150, then 220 to ready it for sealer. Spray a few coats of Helmsman on and your good to go. Unless you plan to remove a 1/2" or more of your handle depth, you wont hurt a thing.

Too many experienced bowyers available for questions to act in haste. Perhaps a picture with the area you would like removed outlined with a Sharpie. Could be the throat is the right diameter and a little palm swell reduction can be done without compromise. Surely the throat on some makes would allow for removal but it would be worth a couple days delay to get some good replies from those that make a living at this. Best wishes

I made the call to the bow hospital and John I'm sure would do an amazing job as he does on everything I've seen but at this point I'm not in the position to afford that quality of work. I will keep handle as is until I can.

I had an ill fitting grip on a Border bow.
I used a dremel tool with a 3/4" sanding mandrel and slowly worked it until I got my desired results. I then used 120 grit paper, followed by 220. It was a composite riser, so I finished it off with a coarse rubbing compound.
Tru Oil did the trick for the finish.
It is hard to tell where it was modified, and feels much better in my hand.
Small amounts can make a big difference in the feel. Go SLOW.

What Ken just said is good advise, I've done this a number of times over the years, as I prefer a smaller grip area and I have never had a problem.

First thing i'd do is call the bowyer who built it bro. Reshaping a grip is definitely going to void any warranty.. If its a factory built bow and not worried about warranty you are still risking riser failure if you take off too much, or grind the wrong area.
