How many use mock scrapes? Is it a good idea to put one under a limb that they scraped under last year? I had a good buck using a scrape last year in a perfect pinch point that I never could kill. I'm trying trying to make a game plan to get him this year.  I've never tried this tactic.

I scented some cracked over branches last year. They all turned into major scrapes.  Problem was this was on land that I shared and also on public land and it caught the attention of other hunters.

The problem I had with that deer last year was he was always there at night. I need to improve my odds of getting him there in the daylight.

mock scrapes will get him there more often, however, from my experience it was just more at night not during daylight. I don't know why.

The buck I took last year was shot over a mock scrape I had put in 20 minutes earlier.  He was actually taking a leak on it when I arrowed him.

I have observed scrapes re-opened at the same location in subsequent years. Hunting them isn't a sure bet where I'm hunting for reasons already covered, but it wouldn't hurt.

Getting a mature buck to move into an area during daylight, when he usually won't is tough. Is there a way to move closer to where he beds?
Next best bet is to hunt there over that scrape in the rain or right after. Especially right before the chasing phase kicks in.

I use mock scrapes when scouting during the season if I'm not sure if there are any bucks actively moving through the area to see if I can get one to identify himself by using my scrape.  It's nice to come back a day or two later and see fresh sign.  Some scrapes are never revisited, so it's not always a sure bet, but the buck I shot last year was working his way along a natural scrape line I had found.

Thanks for the help. I wonder how much good the wicks would be this late in the season? I've always tried to stay away from the scents, mostly based on the theory that I primarily hunt travel routes and don't want to do anything that would alter a deers normal routine or path of travel when I'm not there. This however, seems to be one time where I need to do something. I can't move closer to his bed, because I don't believe he's bedding on property I can hunt on (and I'm close to the edge as it is).

I put a camera out almost two weeks ago on the same tree and trail he scraped under last year. I guess we will see what I've got in a couple more days.

If your does are there and using it he could be there at any time. Camera could tell you when but those does can bring him in. I also pee in my scrapes it makes them wild and I primary think its because of the spill over of sugar in my urine. I know it sounds gross but it works. Lickingh branch over the scrape is key also makes it a community hub. Want to create some real havick is ask your wife or girl friend for her used female pad and see what happens when you hang it over that scrape as well. If you don't have to ask then you take it out of the trash can and place in a zip lock bag and empty the trash they won't know. I know this all sounds werd and sick but try it and see what happens. Animals for some reason seem to like blood I found out.

I hope I didn't turn anyone off and certainly no offence to any lady's here meant either.
