Lone wolf straps silenced....

Now that elk season has ended, its time to shift to whitetails...

I saw in a post about adding rubber to lone wolf straps to keep them from clanking together?  Could someone post some details.  

I bet there are more LW users that also hate that metal clank while setting up.

I used yakgrips on mine. I'm sure there are cheaper ways.

I use bicycle inner tube exactly as Thom has used the Yakgrips.

I made some that look just like Thoms.  I cut up old can cozies
And sewed then into that shape.  Don't look as good but they work and were free.

Yep, exactly. Other stands are using similar straps and the same work for them.

If you have to feed the end of the strap through the buckle on each hang, these would be a pain.

I like the idea of the bicycle inner tube and was going to go that route, but didn't know what size would fit the buckles.
Jason, do you remember what size inner tube you used?

I used a tube from my mountain bike which is a 26 inch wheel.  The tubes are 26 x 1.9-2.25 or something like that if I remember correctly.  At any rate, the tube that I used measured 3.5" in circumference or 1.75" wide when smashed flat.  It is a fairly tight fit but stays put and does the job.

There is a pretty inexpensive product called Stealth Strips that was designed to silence lone wolf stands and buckles.

There's a whole contingent (myself included) that quit using those heavier buckle straps in favor of much lighter and no noise ropes instead. I have a bunch of the old Cranford metal steps that used flat rope. A lot of my LW sticks have this rope now. They are my go-to sets for long treks and set up in dark.

I prefer a rope modification on the sticks also

I prefer rope systems for my sticks as well. Using Muddy Pro Sticks currently and find them quite acceptable. If anyone creates a 3x long stick option with rope/cam and double steps I will be all over it.

Try using hockey tape. I learned this trick from the Canadians in Alberta. They use it on all their stands and sticks. Black or any color you prefer for that matter..It bonds well and creates a durable fabric coating. I taped up all my stands, sticks, bow hangers etc.. Anything that has exposed metal I cover on hockey tape. It works incredible and I have become dead silent. I have put up hang on stands in the dark and once the sun came up I had deer bedded all around me. They never even heard me getting in the tree.
