I have a older Damon Howatt High Speed that has a quiver base with two screws in it. I want to remove the two screws and fill the holes. Just thought I would run it by you guys to see whats the best way to go about it. Thanks       [/IMG]

If the holes are in the glass I fill them with JB Weld,
If in the wood I fill with clear epoxy and then sand flush. Paint with acrylics to match the wood color and grain it with a darker color matching to the grain and although I usually sand and refinish the entire riser you could get by refinishing just the area. Key is to block sand completely flush. sometimes I will use a shaving of the same kind of wood if I have a matching scrap in stock and cut out around the hole so I do not have a round hole and put the shaving in the epoxy with the grain running the same way as the riser. This makes a hole truly disappear. But then the painting when done well does too.

God bless and good luck, steve

Glue in some silver designs, like the kind you get for leather holsters. I have seen deer and elk skull shapes, tracks ect. heck glue your initials in to cover it.

I drill out the size of the hole with the appropriately sized drill bit. Fill with a dowel piece of same size, with a couple flat planes sanded along the length of the dowel to allow glue to escape when inserting dowel. Cut them just short enough to be recessed ever so little into the wood. Use Titebond II or II.

If you can stain the wood or paint it before gluing, do so to match the wood tint. Use drops of a compatible finish to fill the final level up to and slightly above the original finish. Final sand carefully to make everything even. Then polish with polishing compound if needed and/or spray with a correct textured clearcoat.

I have added a pic of the bow and have removed the two screws, only thing left are the inserts that the screws went into. I like both the the above idea's from AZ & Bud. Anymore would be appreciated

Man as nicely as they're done, I might leave them.

I am with Bud.  I don't see any reason to mess with them.

Great idea's all, and Sixby I started out thinking about the expoxy thing and using some paint to touch up. I have also thought about just leaving alone too. I came across an idea I had last night using a single arrow quiver to maybe just hide it. Like the ones Black Widow uses or one like this from 3Rivers. Or they make a single fishing arrow holder that will screw right in my inserts, but it doesn't have a broadhead cover.   [/IMG]

What do you think ?
