I am coming up close to build time for one of Mr. Berry's fine bows.  I have decided on a string follow Morning star.  The front glass to be black and the belly glass white, blond bamboo cores.

Need some help on what would be a good riser wood combination with the glass I have selected.  Not good at visualizing this stuff, looking for old school. Probably this ole mans last new bow and I want it nice. Photos of some berry Morning Stars would be great.  Thanks Tradgangers.

If it were me....I would decide light or dark wood then call James and get his thoughts or just let him decide. He has the touch.        So it sounds like you are getting a Northstar ?

Your probably correct, let James decide.  Not getting the Northstar, decided on the string follow Morning Star.

Mr. Berry, I think 4dogs got it right, please figure it out if your reading this. Brian.

WESTBROOK

Northstar is the string follow reverse handle...Morningstar is reflexed reverse handle.

Airdale

I stand corrected.  The string follow bow I have decided on is the Misty Dawn, this is much like the Vixen but string follow.

Talk to James......he thought curly Myrtle would be good for my Morning Star.......he was right!
In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities. In the expert's there are few...So the most difficult thing is always to keep your beginner's mind...This is also the real secret of the arts: always be a beginner.  Shunryu Suzuki

The Misty Dawn is a superb bow.  As for your riser wood, there's a consensus of opinion among owners here.

x2, call and get James talking, won't take much, and he will build a beauty.

Black and white ebony, match both!

Let OE make the choice. Nobody can beat his judgement... period!

Airdale, if you need more time to think about it, we can change places on the list.  But I would think a completely different color to contrast would be good, bubinga.

Agreed, listen to James - he has 35 years in and he puts all of those years of experience into each bow.  That includes the selection of riser woods - you won't go wrong.  Have fun with the Misty Dawn... I love mine, kind of turning into my go to bow.

James wood combos have never ever let me down. I let him pick. He does a phenomenal job. He's very artsy fartsy.  :)
Seriously, he won't let you down. My misty dawn is an excellent bow under 20 yards. ( that's as far as I can & want to shoot)Surprisingly fast at 17 yards. I've shot many different recurves and longbows. That misty dawn is a sleeper imho. Good luck with w/e you choose. As others have stated. He's been at this for a little while. Please post pics when you do get it tho!

Thanks everyone.  Talked with James today and told him to build it his way. Brian.

including the core wood?

I'll probably do the same for my morning star  :)

I don't think James knows how to do a ugly bow. If he does, he's keeping it a secret...

He has just made me a stunning Morningstar with a riser that has been custom sized to my hand.  I sent him my hand measurements...  The bow fits perfectly in the hand...

I will post some images shortly...

Oh did i mention that its fast?...
Cheers
Alex

If Mr Berry builds an "Ugly" bow I want to be the person who gets it.

It'll be a "One of a kind".

Archery isn't something I do, it's who I am!
The road to "Sherwood" makes for an awesome journey.

I was told my prototype PLUTO was an ugly bow by a local recurve shooter.  After we shot a few, he changed his mind, noting that his bow had a lot of unneeded lines and angles to it, and made a lot of noise.

Airdale

Move me to the top of the list for an ugly bow. Just imagine how a J D Berry bow would look if ole OE was ole 2E.
