Caching supplies

Has anyone cached supplies in advance of a backpack hunt? I'm mostly thinking of caching water and maybe a little dry food in advance of a backpack hunt this fall. I've been trying to figure out how to carry needed supplies and water is my biggest issue. There's some clean water but not along my whole planned trip. Has anyone had experience doing this on state land with success?
