Bowfishing line?

I went bowfishing this morning for the first time in 15 or so years. I found a spot with gar rolling everywhere- all around the boat for 100 yards in every direction. I thought a slaughter would ensue! Needless to say it didnt happen.

 Im using a Bear springarm drum reel just because I want to. I got some dacron line off the auction site and it was worthless, more like kite string! It frayed too easy and I lost 2 new arrows in about 30 minutes. I've been looking online and most line is recommended either for spinning reels or bottles and I dont know what the differences are. I dont think I need 200 lb line really. What type do you guys suggest?

I use 400# bowfishing line if I am targeting gar. Gar scales are very sharp, if you arrow passes completly thru the scales can cut the line.

BCY makes bowfishing line in several sizes, from 90# up.  Tough stuff.

We run 200 pound AMS line on all our bowfishing rigs. Anything larger really impacts shot distances. 40 years of bowfishing and I have never had a fish break it.

Your biggest issue will be not tearing your hands up when pulling the fish in. Id say go 200 dacron or 400 fast flight. Both will give you plenty of distance as long as your bow is tuned to the fish arrows. The 200 fast flight and other line for spinners is thin and slick and will slice you up if the fish makes a run.

Ok thanks for the input guys. Im going to try some 200# BCY and see how that works out.
