Two nights ago I received my Wilderness Custom Arrows from David Lawson, known to Tradgang as Snag. Other than his test kit I have no experience with wood arrows, but I can already say I'm not going back. The exhilarating shooting experience I was looking for in evermore expensive carbons I have found here, made of wood... Ironic this was counterintuitive as we are traditionalists. I was pleased with my carbons, they bare shafted very well, but turns out I was happy with the shadows on the wall because I had never been outside the cave. A return to carbon, for me, would be a re-burdening of the yoke.

My bows are in the mid-fifties. These arrows are weighing about 575 grains on my scale. They fly like the midnight train that carried Kerouac's immortal Dharma Bum up the Pacific coast; a steel-devouring hell hound in the night. One dozen colorfully crested daisy cutters that leave the bow with purposeful intent.

Of course, they are beautifully done. I went to David's site and commented on his work that struck me, but beyond that just said "do what you do." The candy apple finish is worthy of a Billy Gibbons Cadillac. Colors that remind me of the wool flannel my grandfather would wear into the vintage American winter of Jump River Wisconsin.

I think I have 4 sets of David's work, and they set a standard that I have only seen a few match.

Glad to hear you've made the switch to Doug Fir. I was sure you would love Snag's product after giving them a try. I have about 5 dozen in my arsenal and love them for more than just the way they look and fly. I shot Cedar for years with great success, but in comparison Doug Fir is extremely tough and not nearly as prone to break the tip off behind the point when I bounce them off something on a errant shot. The other plus is that they always hit where they land! Ok, go figure.

I have a few dozen of David's fine craftsmanship, every one well constructed.

I enjoy getting arrows built by someone else as I have been building my own for 20+ years.
