I am mainly a longbow guy but have recently bought a static tipped recurve.. I wanted to see what everyone's  experience  has been with the yarn string wraps on the ends of the string where it touches the limb belly? Is it a benefit on reducing noise and string slap?
Have you found any negatives with these? And finally,  are far as length, do you just wrap for the distance tge string touches the limb at brace? Thanks steve

I recently bought a static rc here on the classifieds and it arrived with wraps. It is very quiet, but I have not shot it without them. I would think there would be minimal need for them due to the static tips. The string rolls over the tips on release, there really isn't any "string slap". I would think wraps might be more effective on regular recurves.

Just my thoughts.

If the wraps make any difference it must be a rather poorly designed static tip...my Tuktu EX is fine without string silencers of any sort

I set out a while ago to reduce my herd of 40 bows...And I am finally down to 42

Skinny string with no wraps on mine,  yarn silencers on the string about 1/3 in...very quiet.

I've adopted too many bows that needed a good home.

The string dont actually slap the limb but rather it rolls back on to it. But if you think thats where the noise is comeing from try brush buttons.

I have used wool wraps for several recurve bows and believe it does work, sometimes it takes a combination of things to quiet a bow so experimenting is not a bad thing. I wrapped mine a bit beyond the contact area. You need to satify yourself on "quiet" because one mans quiet may be another mans noisy ... good luck

IMHO, I've used them but no more.  After what could have been a catastrophic failure, two of the most recognized bowyers in trad archery told me they don't recommend putting anything on the string which could impede its ability to track in the limb grooves.  There is no noise from the radiused portion where the string is being "reeled in".  If you're hearing a slap from where the contact stops, just put a small patch of adhesive-backed felt there.

Had them on a black widow and really was quiet

I like them. Takes a bow from quiet to crazy quiet.

String slap comes more after the braced point of contact than what lies on the limb. Something in this area will help many recurves.

A bit harsh, bows and men are all unique and different.  One mans "need" of extra quieting may be acceptable for another. A loud bow does not mean a poor design, just not ideally tuned.

I build custom strings, so i'm not just some guy in left field, but I have never had a customer not say the wraps quietened their bow.  I have them on ever recurve I own.

As Shed Hunter said, I have some on my widow as well and I will not shoot them without them.

I have learned through being here a while, test it for your self.  You will always have supporters and non supporters, you'll just have to test and see which side you are on.

Thanks for all the input.. i will give them a shot, (no pun intended ) and see what I think

I use them they work well. Just as well as felt or Velcro but, I always have yarn on hand to make string silencers with.
