How to measure Draw Weight.

Hey all.

I have a scale mounted and I want to make sure I am going to measure properly.

Do I get an arrow and measure off 28 inches then nock it, put the string on the scale and then pull it until thst 28 inch mark is right on the edge of the back of the bow, right in front of where the hand would be??

Is that the proper way to do this?  I want to make double sure I am doing this right.

That is the way most of us do it.

Most of us at home guys use the back of the bow.
AMO has a,short formula that adjusts for different thickness of risers.

There is no universally accepted way to do it, but what you're proposing is the way a lot of folks do it. Some, hang the riser from a post and pull the string down. Others conduct one or the other of these, but do it horizontally, rather than vertically.  

They do yield slightly different results, because the weight of the bow is incorporated into the measurement in the first method and not the others.  Or, looked at another way, the same weight is achieved at slightly different draw lengths.    

Differences between scales probably accounts for as much variance as measurement methods.  As long as you measure yours the same way each time, you'll have comparable results over time.
