I've had several stands stolen myself. My favorite one was when I walked into my spot on opening morning of Mass Bow and the only thing left was the peg I held my bow on.
The worse part of it all is the majority of the thiefs are the fair weather hunters. The ones who get their jollies ruining everyone else's season for the weeks worth of time they put in the woods a year.
I could go on and on but my blood pressure is rising already.

Happy hunting to all the real hunters out their who put there time and heart into it!!

I have a ladder stand out behind my place.
My philosophy is, that if they want to drag that 45 lbs out of the woods and up the ravine, more power to em.

But I hate the fact you were violated by some idiot.

TRAP

I stole a treestand once.

It was a home made version of a Loc-On treestand and a very nice stand.  The "wooden" seat sat a little higher than an original loc-on and it was very comfy to sit in.

It was hung on property that myself and a friend have sole permission to hunt on.  I walked in to get in it one morning and the  stand, screw in steps, haul rope, gone.

Later that week, I hunted another piece of property a couple miles from there and on my way out of the woods that morning, guess what I stumbled across.  yep,  my treestand.

So, I stole it back, screw in steps, haul rope, stand and all.

Engrave your name and address in a hidden spot on your hang on stand, two or three places, even write it down on paper and slip it into a frame tube. If it's stolen check the pawn shops, if found, say nothing, but bring Johnny Law back, that way you get the stand back with noting but a glare from the shop keeper and the name of the guy who pawned it for the police. I did that with my son's Game Boy years ago.

I know of several stories where anti hunters steal and rip down treestands and in one particular location they smeared the treestands with.......well use your imagination.
