Can it be done if so how many strands 55# bow? Anything  else I should know?

Gordon Jabben

I wasn't able to find the string I made one time to count the strands but it certainly will make a durable string with quite a bit of stretch.  I later made a real sinew string for the same bow and it also was very durable and had a lot of stretch.

I think the thing you should know is ...that you are taking a unnecessary risk using primitive untested string material and could end up hurting yourself and damaging your bow.... My question to you is WHY would you want to use this material?

BHTGdogs

It's a board bow and Idc about it lol. It's more of just a test of the material.

Ok bro... just don't whack yourself in the noggin.

I actually made one for a selfbow(hickory) I tested the breaking point of a single strand and it broke at about 50#.I went a little crazy and went with 14 strands.after I tied on the serving I had trouble finding nocks to fit the fat string but it looked pretty cool. Later I just bought tan b55 and use it from now on.rich pyle

If breaking strength is 50# it won't be worth the time. Like you said nicks would be a problem.

Orion

B-50 has a breaking point of 50# or less per strand.  If the artificial sinew breaks at 50# per strand, can go with about the same number of strands as B-50.  Will end up with a much thicker string though.

you could always use wood arrows and make self nocks on them. Then you can make them match up to the sinew.

Strand count depends--different types have different breaking strengths.

It can be done, but it's a pretty crappy string.  Stretches like crazy.
