Nice David!  You and I had a very similar season so far.  When I decided to shoot and stop hunting for horns I got blessed with a nice young buck.  Good luck with the rest of your season.  Joe

Very well told story.  I felt as if I was in the tree with you.  Congratulations on your late season deer - should be great table fare!

Glad you got one. I've messed up in the past and passed on certain deer waiting on another, and then things don't turn out right, and I don't end up getting a shot at all. Congrats again!

Congrats Buddy! I've had a couple does like "scarface" one in particular messed me up a few times. My younger brother got her with a rifle after a couple years.

Nice Dave!  I enjoyed your write up.  Maybe Old Scarface isn't meant to be harvested!

I've had history with an Old Doe that had a radio collar.  Her neck hair was all worn off.  I decided not to shoot her even though I had her 10-15 yards a number of times.  It seemed she would actually find me some years...but she would also bring gifts of younger deer with her.  After seeing her for 5-6 years, the dance was over...had to die of old age cause nobody hunts my area with suburban land permission near impossible around me.  See ya this spring...Jeff

Mike I sure did miss you last night. I drug that little button about 300 yards across the open bean fields behind my place cause there was no way to get the Sammy back there. Two or three times I thought man where's Mike when you need him most. I remembered why I shoot little deer!

Finest eating, and hardest target, size wise.  Congrats.  I always start with the idea of holding out, but the Eichler effect always takes over when a deer gets in range.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

Thanks fellas. Little fella is making some fine meals. Had fried "inside" loins last night and fried heart tonight. Ground the hams into some great burger for my girls and kept the shoulders whole for the smoker. Hard to think about missing when you got a belly full of good eats!
