Hello, I'm somewhat new to the field of archery, but I am already interested in purchasing my own bow and equipment, preferably a longbow with a 20- to 25-pound pull.

I have shot a compound bow at 30-pound pull, a youth recurve at 12-pound pull, and a longbow (I'm not sure what poundage).

For the more experienced archers out there, do you have any recommendations what brand of bow or arrows to buy?

Get something that fits you...if you have somewhere you can test out the samick bows I'd give them a shot.they are affordable good bows for those starting out
I'd rather be judged by 12 then carried by 6

too bad you live so far away. I have a black widow target bow that has two sets of limbs. 32# and 41#. The bow is 69" and is probably just as easy to draw as a shorter bow with less poundage. It's a cool looking bow as it has a candy apple red handle. But it's better to try it before you buy it.

Brand or type is not as important as what "feels" right to your hand and to your eye. If you like a bow more than others you will shoot it more and have more fun and shoot better.   ;)

Contact Maddog Traditional Archery. He is a sponsor, and can match you up with something that fits.

If it's in your way, move it.

If you're looking for a cheap brand new starter bow you can't go wrong with a Samick Sage. 3riversarchery.com is a great resource and they're one of our sponsors.

Maddog Archery is also a great source for a custom bow at production pricing, and they're a sponsor as well.

Saltwatertom is right. Thats why I say to try it before you buy it. I had an old bear polar that I liked more than any bow I have ever owned. Shot great till the day it broke.

After doing this a while, I think, like wands, the bow chooses you.
