I know many of you have bought and sold bows over the years. If Pay Pal is not an option, what is the best and safest means of receiving payment for a bow? Thanks for your input.

Thank you gentleman for the quick replies!

I have never sold one but the ones I have bought on this site were with a postal money order.

Being out of country, a US money order or personal check has bought and sold bows for me. US Postal money orders can't be cashed up here.
I feel OK with a personal check on this site only as the new contributor status needed for access has produced the best of people to deal with.

Postal money order; I often take a personal check if I feel I trust the person.
So far so good.

Actually Tom those of us here in the US can purchase USPS MO that is for purchases outside the US.I bought a selfbow from Marc St Louis in Ontario with one.

Yes, if to be cashed in Canada or elsewhere just ask for an "International" postal money order...

MnFn

International is an option.  Depending on where the seller lives, a regular money order may work as well. Because, many of our friends to the north regularly travel into US and can easily cash a regular money order at most of the larger post offices.  For instance, our parking lots in Grand Fofks ND are regularly packed with Manitoba cars on the week ends.

I say larger because many of the small offices do not have sufficient cash on hand to cover larger money orders.

Thanks, that's good to know. I received a "regular" Postal MO and it says right on it,(sort of) Good in US only. Bit of a run around on that one.

Cashier's check from your bank.  Same as cash, and made out to the recipient only.

Having just retired from law enforcement, even these are being counterfeited. The printers we have in today's world are pretty dang good.

Use caution with this one unless you know the buyer.

Traveler's Cheques are also being counterfeited.

Nothing is sacred anymore.  Just when I thought I found a fail safe method, they up and change it on me.  Thank you for the head's up Bud.

What happens with a cashier's  check, and what makes them so attractive to crooks, is that first, it inspires confidence (you don't expect it to be bad), and second, you deposit it and wait until it is "cleared."  Once the issuing bank has accepted it, a few days after you deposit it, you think you're home free. But what happens is that up to 30 days later, it bounces when the issuing bank discovers it is bogus. The issuing bank then charges it back against the bank it was deposited in, and you're left holding the bag. So if someone offers to pay you with a cashiers check, and you don't know them, you might have to wait 45 days after depositing it before you're sure it's a good check.  This is why those Nigerian scams are still running, after all these years.  I suppose it would be possible for your bank to communicate directly with the issuing bank and find out if it's a good check sooner than 45 days, but usually they don't want to accept that responsibility.

The upshot is that I would much rather accept a personal check from someone I know than a cashiers check from someone I don't know.
