How soon do you sit the same stand after blowing it?

So, tonight, I sat a stand here in Wisconsin for the second time this season. It's on the edge of an alfalfa field, and both times I've had plenty of does on it basically the whole evening. Tonight, I had a nice, mature buck come out right before dark (as they like to do) and work to within about forty yards from me. Like an idiot, I grunted at him and he circled downwind and busted me. So, I guess the question is: how long do I wait to sit that stand again? My thought initially was to give it 4-5 days, but after thinking it through, I might actually let it go a couple of weeks. What do you all do and or think?

Ooh, that's a tough one.  I actually did this same thing earlier this year.  I've been back to that stand since; I just won't use calls again from that stand until the middle of the rut.

I feel like if they come by with natural movement, I'm good.  It's only if they hear the grunt from there again that they might freak out.
For we did not follow cleverly contrived myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ; instead, we were eyewitnesses of His majesty.

To be honest he probably won't be back unless the rut kicks in! However what made it good for him to be there probably makes it good to be there for other bucks. So all is not lost! But to be safe I'd personally have a back up plan if your after this particular buck.
Most people get rich by making more money than they have needs, me, I just reduced my needs!

Thanks for the response guys. Yeah Coach- lesson learned on the calling this early (though I guess it can happen anytime). I guess buck fever got me and I got impatient.

LC- that was what I was thinking. I might not even hunt that spot again and try to hang a different stand to catch him during the rut.

Anybody else have any thoughts?

Don Stokes

I never hunt the same stand two days in a row. The deer pattern us quickly, and I keep moving around to keep my stands as unnoticeable as possible to the deer. I would move that stand, if only 10 or 20 yards, and have alternate places to sit.
Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.- Ben Franklin

I'm with Don on this one.

The fact the does keep coming to that spot makes me believe it still can be good, might fool another buck. See about moving the stand 20 or 30 yards if that's an option.

Just one old fart's oppinion...

More & more these days... It seems the "Big Buck" "Huntin' Show" Vidio/DVD mentality, seems to over-ride plain old good woodsmanship!!!

Winds change, people smell like people, and "scent-lock" doesn't.

This is Hunting. Things happen... Bottom line is, just because you got busted, doesn't mean that every deer in the woods "knows" you're there!!!!! A "good spot" is a good spot, period. Some days may be better than others, but I've seen (and killed) deer, days in a row from some of my better stands!!! Yes, I have been busted! Only to have another deer come along, and even the SAME deer come back for another look!!!!!

Just because you got busted... Doesn't mean that they knew WHAT you were. Something just didn't feel (or smell) "right".

If it's a good stand, in a good spot, GET BACK IN IT!!!!!

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!
I only shoot WOOD arrows... My kid makes them, fast as I can break them!

There is a fine line between Hunting, & Sitting there looking Stupid...

May The Great Spirit Guide Your Arrows..... Happy Hunting!!!

Hey Woodchucker- thanks for the encouragement! Good thoughts. I do think this is a great spot. I'll let you know what pans out!

I try not to sit the same stand more than 2 times a week, that may be a morning and evening same day, or 2 separate evenings 3 days apart, I just really try and not overhunt my best spots and don't hunt them at all without the right wind, just me.
