I just bought a dozen Victory VAP 500 shafts. I love the old skinny cabelas sst shafts and these are the same diameter but unfortunately not as heavy. They come in .001 .003 or .006
The 1s and the 3s come with what they call a ICE coating. Supposed to penatrate better? I can see it helping in target removal.
Anyway,  they do not put this coating on the last 5 1/8" or so near the nock so that wraps or feathers will stick. This may work for compound shooters that use short wraps and tiny vanes. The problem I ran into was the wrap I was using was 7" and the last inch and a half flat. Would not adhere! Even when I acetoned the shafts.  I went through 3 wraps and they just came off the last part instantly
I thought about not using the wraps but with a 5"  feather plus the distance it is set in the bitzenberger it extends out nearly 6". So the leading edge of the feather will not adhere. I mean nothing will stick to that ICE coating!.
What I ended up doing was spinning the shaft on some 400 grit paper until I removed the coating. Then the wrap stuck fine.
I had the .003 shafts. The .001 will be the same way. If I buy again I will buy the .006 because they don't have the coating. I did call Victory and let them know and they said they may change how much they dip. I told them no arrow penatrate tgat far into a target anyway so it won't hurt anything not dipping the last 7"
Problem solved but a bit of a PITA . Thought maybe I'd save someone else some grief!

I have a set that I crown dipped with fletch lac. I had to sand the area as well as the first dip just slid off.

Easton Injexion are the same diameter as the Victory VAP but with a heavier GPI.I had some Victory VAP 400,they were 7.1 GPI and my Easton Injexion 400 are 8.9 GPI.The Injexion don't come in as many different spines, you have 480,400 and 330.I put some VAP inserts in my Easton Injexion so I could use larger and heavier points in them.
Instead of the Deep Six points with the 6/40 threads.

Yeah I did the same thing   :)   Tried to crest and it wasnt happening, I used some 800grit and lightly sanded it. From there on it worked great. I love the VAPs. Because of their lighter weights I can technically over spine but use a heavier point to even it out, then I got 26%+ FOC. They fly like darts and at least penetrate my block target by 4" more than my old GT Traditionals. And crazy part is I went from 650gr arrow to 520gr arrow. Lighter, Flatter flying and penetrate further.

I've been looking at the VAP shafts for this fall season (probably will only be able to go out early January due to school which should give me ample time to get the arrows dialed in). I'm at similar poundage in weight but at a 27" draw.

Have you run into tuning issues with these shafts? I'm putting the numbers through the spine calculator and it seems to favor a .250 spine shaft, but best FOC I can seemingly get is about 24% using 300gr point + 33gr Firenock outsert. Which outserts are you using for your setup (Firenock, VAP, etc)? Would love to know how you set up your arrows.

The biggest problem for me in using the calculator has been how to translate the Firenock outsert since it both sheaths the arrow shaft for 0.67" and also extends the BOP of the arrow 0.67". Does that mean there is a footing of 0.67 inches then?

I love my VAP.  I do not use a wrap, so no issue with adhesion.  I just use fletching tape to adhere feathers (I use three 4") and then put a bead of Fletch Tight Platinum on each side of each feather.

I shoot VAP 400's out of bows ranging from 50# to 63# @ 28".  I pull a tad over 29".  All bows cut past center.

I use a internal footing consisting of a 4mm rod, 1.25" long glued in then the Aero Outsert by Firenock.  I use 300 grains up front.  Getting arrow weight of 605 grains.

Penetrate like mad and fly like darts!  Worse thing is if you miss your target (or get complete pass-through), these babies will bury DEEP in the ground (especially at a slight angle - I've had them bury all the way up past fletching and only have nock sticking out of ground)!

I know Stu's calculator isn't going to get you all the way to tuning your arrow but like I said earlier, I'm getting numbers that point to .250 spine VAPs.

But rbcorbitt, your personal experience is pointing to .400 spine. And I'm planning on nearly the same setup: Firenock outsert, 300gr point, 20gr Deep Six insert. Did you use Stu's calculator to get you in the ballpark for your arrow setup?

I tried the calculator and it was saying the same, to go with 250s but it didnt seem right to me because I was previously shooting GT Trads in 300 spine full length of 32". So anyhow, I ordered up a couple single shafts from Lancaster to try out and from my experience last year when I was shooting Compound these shafts seem stiffer than their spine states. So Ive got full length 300's (which is 30.5") with the Penetrator 2 inserts and running 200gr point, four 2" rayzr feathers. Pulling 65# @ 30.5" and they tune perfect bareshaft. Fly amazing with fletching.

The other thing is because of the smaller diameter, you're technically a bit closer to center of your riser. Thats something to take into account.

Thanks for the insight Jarrod! I'll do the same and order both the 250 and 300 spines from Lancaster and play around with the setup.
