I seem to shoot a little high from where I'm looking at target. Would a high nock point cause this. When I get it down below 1/2 inch above square I seemed to get contact off shelf. Advice is needed. Thanks a bunch.

You're two years younger than me, and RETIRED!?!!!!  :scared:

Are you shooting off the shelf? What kind of fletching? How is the arrow flight? What do you mean by "contact off shelf."? We needs mo-info. I'd love to stay and chat it out with you, but I have to go to work.  :mad:

Long, long afterward, in an oak I found the arrow, still unbroke;

Thanks for your reply Killdeer (cool name). Yes shoot off shelf with 5" feathers. I have good arrow flight at 1/2 above square, it just seems my arrows hit high. It feels and looks like I have to shoot low to hit where I want. Yes I am a Blessed man. Young enough to enjoy retirement.    :bigsmyl:

trying moving your nock point UP just a tad more.

I dont lke screwing around with my setup once it's where I want it if I have an off day.  If you're just setting things up, or it's a new bow, you could try moving it up a hair.  if it's a bow you've been shooting awhile and it's happening every day, check your drawlength and/or your anchor point to be certain you are doing things par normal.   If everything checks out, then I'd consider moving the nock point.

lastly check your braceheigth, see if the the string stretched some, causing you to end up with a longer powerstroke, which would end result in a faster arrow and possibly a slightly higher impact.

just some idears.........

Most bows shoot best for me nocked at 5/8" to 7/8" above square, depending on the diameter of the shaft.

Move the nock up a 1/16th. at a time or even an 1/8th. at a time. I myself seem to need a high nock point due to how I apply pressure to the string and I gree with Foxbow. I like 7/8ths. on most of my bows. Shawn

Yup, 9/16ths seems to work real well on most of my bows. But some like it even higher.

I used to think 1/4 inch above level was normal. And that was where I set my nocking point. But my average groups were always an inch or 2 above the 3 inch bull. So I began moving my nocking point up a 16th at a time, and I would shoot for a couple days like that. I could see my groups gradualy moving down, but it just bothered me nocking so high above level, just didn't seem right. But the groups tell the story, so I kept moving the nocking point higher. My bows shoot the best around 7/16th to 1/2 inch above level.  But every bow and shooter is different. If I were you, I would keep raising the nocking point and see what results you get.

What would be considered to high for a nock point?    Does anyone shoot above 1/2 inch above square?
  :confused:

If you are measuring from the bottom of the arrow nock when the arrow is nocked on the string, yes I do on some of my bows with certain arrows/set-ups. Especially when shooting off the shelf and 3 fingers under.

Lots of folks shoot with a nock point higher than 1/2 inch. You should have read that in the above replies. Keep moving your nock point up till your arrows hit where you are looking.
