old compound riser

I saw a post about building new limbs for an old recurve riser. I have been hauling around an old aluminum riser from a 1970's Carol compound for over 30 years. It weighs a ton, but the small grip is just awesome. Always had a dream of putting recurve limbs on it. Anyone ever tried such a thing?

That's called a "warf" bow. Google that and you'll get your answers.

You can get a set of sage limbs cheep and probably just bolt them on with little trouble

Sage limbs would probably work. I happened to have a set of limbs from an old PSE Kudu laying around. Also had a Darton SL50 compound in the attic. I installed a locator pin in the limb bed to keep the limbs from rotating and screwed the limbs on tight, hoping for the best. Strung her up and the brace height and limb angle looked good. It's turned out to be a nice shooter. The limb angle would be the determining factor to make it work.  I have no idea what that angle needs to be, but maybe someone here has that answer. Good luck!

15to17degrees. Measuring the angle is a little tricky. Best bet is google warf bow. He did a Rambo riser for me. It shoots better than I can.
By the way, I remember those Carrols bows. He first compounds were made from a recurve riser. So I was told.

Yep, Google Bob Gordon or Warf Bows. Not every riser will work but Bob knows which ones are best and can mill them to the proper angle and can even adapt some risers to ILF limbs attachment. Bunch of info over on Trad****. Don't know if I can say that here or not.

I took an old PSE riser  and put a set off my SS limbs on it for my nephew and he really likes it.

I have that same riser with ILF limbs. I gain 5-6# over rated weight because of the limb angle. How did yours turn out?

I've got an old black bear riser and a proline riser that were converted to ILF..they are both excellent shooters

Some neat-looking results. I have to say though, that one of the things I've enjoyed most about coming (back) to tradbows is simply how much lighter they are in the hand than wheelies. How do these bows with re-purposed risers compare?

They tend to be heavy though I've held some 3 piece trad bows with massive wooden risers that are just as heavy.

Thanks for the input. In looking at the riser it may be tough. There are dual limb bolts but it is heavily
scalloped on both top and bottom of riser. Do not know if there could be enough width to bolt through the bottom of the limbs
