I am heading down to GA next week for a week long spot and stauk Pig hunt. Just wandering if it is worth while hitting the woods early at first light.

I have hunted hogs in Florida, SC, and Texas. Never went into an area before first light. Have a good breakfast, pack a lunch and stay out all day until dark. That has been our approach and we see hogs every day in Texas.

Yeah I hunted with Mike last year and that's wise advise for many reasons. I just can't help myself when it comes to getting up early and woke everyone up trying to get out the door in the morning and I think Mike was thinking of capping me.  I like predawn in the woods.

We see and kill a lot of hogs in the morning here in Florida.

I'm with killinstuff.  Very hard for me not to get up at the  "crack of dawn" and hit the woods.  But the idea of a nice breakfast and hunting all day sounds good to me also.

To Jim's point they have feeders so the pigs come to you and you best be there before they get there. In Texas if you are not hunting over a feeder, just corning a road the corn will be gone before morning so morning is stent looking for pigs. I just like it when the turkeys are coming off the roost and things are waking up whether in Florida or Texas.

In my experience, a lot of guys come in for lunch.  I choose to pack a lunch and stay out all day.  As long as your in the woods with hogs there is always a chance of getting a shot.

No feeders here.  We will be hunting Ft Stewart.  First time I will have been there so I figure I will need to put a lot of miles on just to locate the pigs.

You can find them-or not-just about any time of day. Evenings and early mornings are best no doubt; but often they are around at noon time as well.   :archer:

killinstuff

Yes you will want to be out early at Ft Stewart.  I'll be down there the first week in February.  If you see "CJ" carved into any trees you will need to move on, that's my spot.

I'll make sure to tack the tails next to your initials:)

Ear plugs CJ. Four years in the military and plenty of nights in a bunk house. Never heard a thing. Besides I wouldn't throw a cap at ya. If you got on our nerves we would of just messed with your food.

Good luck this year in GA.

You guys talking about Ft. Stewart....is it true they did away with the archery qualification?

I'd like to head down sometime, but would need to schedule for the qualification shoot if its still required.  I had heard they did away with it.
Ken Adkins

Never question a man's choice in bows or the quality of an animal he kills.  He is the only one who has to be satisfied with either of those choices.

killinstuff

You are correct, no more archery qualification.
