I happened upon some unobtanium arrow rest material in a giveaway right as my Velcro rest is wearing out.

Now which color barge cement is best for attaching sealskin rests and beaver tail skin grips

The common ones you'll see are yellow, blue, and maybe green.
Yellow is the old formula. Works fine if you get it.
Blue is the new formula. Works fine if you get it.
Green is all purpose. Works fine if you get it.

Don't get the blue. Yellow is best.

Blue works just fine. I was apprehensive when they changed the formula to to keep brain dead glue sniffers from killing what few gray matter cells they had left. Turns out the blue tube stuff is very similar to the yellow tube stuff.

I put on unstitched leather handle covers with it.

Eric,

That is encouraging news, but you have to be one of the few I've ever heard found the new formula to be effective... I surely hope the bad press they got after switching, to "provide a safety net for those types", may have had them go back to the drawing board and re-work the newer formula...

I like the yellow Barge the best, not sure if you can still find it.The blue is Toulene free, more enviroment friendly. The first tube of the blue I got,I open it and used it and then about a month later went to use it again and the tube was unusable. The glue had totally jelled in the tube. The next blue tube worked fine even after not using it for awhile and still has been working just fine.

I have used the blue tube on all my bow handles, 5 total. Not a lot of bows but the bow I use for elk hunting was out in the rain 10 of the 15 days I hunted elk a few years back and the handle is still in place. The handle is wrapped elk hide.

I use a lot of contact cement in my leather work and I can't say one works better than the other. I usually use Weldwood as I can get it at the local hardware store, but Barge cement has worked just as well for me.

Barge is a brand of contact cement. I have used many brands, all with the same results. Weldwood is easy to find in most hardware stores so that is what I use most these days.

Got it. Thanks. I figured the unobtainable part was pretty obvious, but thought maybe a slang term for a specific product no longer in production or something...

That's what the old man that runs the archery shop refers to anything that he can no longer find to sell if it's something worth having. Discontinued stuff not worth having is "junk"

I get my blue tube stuff at Hobby Lobby, cut the 40% off coupon out of the paper and get the stuff at a pretty decent price.

Keefer

Eric,
I forgot all about Hobby Lobby haveing it and yes my wife is a "Coupon clipper" and carry's a binder full of them now that we have three little girls needing this and that...I should see if they have any clearance sales after Christmas in the leather department there again this year..Anyone needing bits of leather for shelf plates, string keepers, pocket quivers, handle wraps better check out the sales cause last year I got a Big bag of assorted leather for only $5.00 from there...
Thanks Eric once again for mentioning the Barge!
