Just curious how many of you guys feel that the white is too bright in the Fall Grey and what are the best techniques for toning it down some? I did a search and found fabric markers, grey rit dye and a coffee and vinegar mix have been used.  Does anyone else have any suggestions or which of the following methods seemed to work the best?

This started life as Columbia wool snow camo, lots of white in it.

Threw some walnuts with husks on in a 5 gal bucket and let em soak awhile. Then strained thru an old t-shirt and used a spray bottle to get the tone I wanted.

The other Columbia color was way too dark to suit me.

Stay sharp, Kenny.

Very cool Kenny!
What a great idea starting with the snow camo.

Kenny told me how to stain camo with walnut husk while I was in his camp this year.

I made a batch and used the walnut stain on my ghillie suit and it worked perfectly. The walnut stain really dulled the lighter colors in the ghillie suit down and gave the whole ghillie suit a kind of muddy look, which is perfect for the areas I hunt.

Thanks Kenny!

Predator Fall Gray never worked for me, either. I always got looked at by anything that walked by. The Fall Brown, on the other hand just seems to be invisible to any game I encounter and am still. I just ordered my wife Laura a Predator Deception outfit from DAY ONE. Her Fall Brown winter jacket is just too warm on mild days but she seems to be invisible in it.

Which items do you have?
It can be pretty difficult to stain synthetics...

Are you soaking the walnuts in water or is it some other medium?

Fall Gray was designed for Tree Stands(according to the original developer)...That's where it works best....on the ground, not so much....Spring Green or Fall Brown works better all around. IMO

I've seen a pile of walnuts close to home and do you think I could remember where one is? Just one damn tree!

Yes, knock the husk off the walnuts and soak the husk in water.

Charlie, I had the same problem. There are a ton of walnut trees around here and I kept wonder where the closest tree was... as I past by one almost everyday next to our driveway.   :knothead:    :biglaugh:

Yep, I roadhunted some walnuts the other day, got 10 gallons soaking.  But I don't take the husk off the nut, just pitch the whole thing in the bucket.  Will be a happy squirrel somewhere when I get what I want off em!!

Bretto, it was dark there compared to this year!! Will maybe make a poultice to wear while I sleep!

Oh yeah, and some spray on tan!!   :D
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Thanks for the advice fellas. I'll give the walnuts a try.

Orcheln's has a great spray bottle back in the vet section, sprays upside down. You wont need it for this, but it is killer for homemade scent killer for boots!!
Stay sharp, Kenny.
