I tie a small feather on the bow string to make sure I see wind changes while hunting. Works for me
you should see how I use to shoot

That's really cool!
It gives you an early idea as to which stand to consider and/or how to approach your stand before you get there.
I understand that you can only be sure when you are actually there but this can give you an understanding and a pretty good head start
Thanks for posting

A small strand of dental floss works, as well.

I've been using a wind feather myself for 30+ years. Works great.
This wind site isn't meant to show you the wind direction while you're on stand, as much as showing you wind patterns and fronts, etc... and how they relate to your hunting area. Just another visual aide.

After the season go buy some firework smoke bombs.  Take them to your hunting area and light them.  You will be surprised what the wind actually does.  You can follow the smoke you may learn that you have been hunting a stand on the complete wrong wind for years.  I did.

Bobby Urban

x2 on WDL's comment.  They also stink so long after the smoke is gone you can catch a wiff of the sulfur while wandering around your property and it clicks???  If I can smell the sulfur from here it is likely the deer can smell me??

Beyond that I use the fluff from my fly tying kit and keep a little of it with me.  Pull a little of the colored stuff off and let it go in the wind.  Surprising at times how the little thing drifts and turns as it floats away down through the woods.  Really helps explain what is going on in the immediate area around your stand.

Hoyt

The wind has not been my friend this season..nor the weatherman. Hunted a spot yesterday morning just because of wind forecasst. It blew just opposite of prediction and spooked 3 deer as soon as they came in.

Thanks for the site..cool map. I use milkweed also.

NoCams

Been there, done that Hoyt........  :knothead:

But, most of the time they are pretty close especially if it is a front coming in or leaving and it is a good 10MPH or better wind.
