i'm shooting a viper deluxe 50#@28 and I draw 27". I just put together a half dozen GT 3555's 32" long with a 150gr up front and a cap wrap and 5" shield cut feathers. My question is I am grouping very well but I'm consistently hitting 4" to the left. I added to my strike plate and didn't really see a difference I also took it off and still not much of a difference. What suggestions do you fellas have? Thank you for your time.

They should work out OK with that bow. I'd first strip an arrow and do a bare shaft test and get my shaft flying true to the target from at least 20 yards away. No nock right or left but flying straight. You may have to cut the shaft down if too weak (arrow nock left) or add point or insert weight if too stiff (arrow nock right). Then when you get a good flying arrow you can shoot your fletched arrows and see where they impact. Chances are they will be pretty close. If not then you can play with your side plate. That's how I'd approach it.

I did bare shaft tune and they flew fine that's why I'm confused now hahaha.

Guess I should have said that first huh sorry. I ordered just shafts and bare shaft tuned for this very reason but now it is as if I didn't even bare shaft.

Were the bare shafts hitting where you looked, or were they also hitting 4" to the left?

Is the grouping left a new symptom?   If so what were u shooting before?    Or is the first time you shot this bow in particular.

southernwoody

The bare shaft hit where I look. I've shot this bow for a while and shot cabela extreme 400 but they where to light and stiff and getting old so I got the GT.

If your bare shafts are hitting where you look and fletched shafts are hitting left, it means you are a stiff, which adding fletching tends to stiffen the shaft. Sounds like you just need some more point weight.

jmrsyrs

Yup ^^^ what pitbull said. Try adding some point wt.

southernwoody

I will do that! Thanks you guys! This site is full of all kinds of great info and helpful people.

I'm going to purchase new inserts. My question now is should I go with 50gr or 100gr?

If it were me I'd buy both.

You will get better results if you keep your standard inserts and buy heavier points. Those inserts act like footing because of their length.

Remember the whole point of bare shaft tuning and broadhead tuning is to get both the bare shafts, the broad heads, and the fletched field points all hitting in the same spot. That may or may not be where "you are looking", especially if it's a new bow. That 4" left may be where you are actually aimed.

If, once you are tuned, and you feel like you are still hitting left of where you want, it might be a form issue. Make sure the arrow is directly under your dominant eye. That might mean canting your body more to the right.

Also, make sure your anchor point is tight to your cheek. Having your hand float out from your face will cause a left miss, too.
