I got a mid to late seventies Bear Grizzly and Kodiak hunter that I take with me every now and then.

Right there with you guys on the classifieds. I swear my bows multiply when I'm not looking!

This is my first year back into trad after a 15 year hiatus. I'll be taking my '72 Kodiak Hunter out for a stroll here in a couple weeks when elk season opens.  Praying for nasty weather!

Great post - and congrats on the Howatt!

My senior year of high school I shot my first traditional deer with my grandpas first hunting bow its a 65 Bear Kodiak. I still take this bow to the woods. You should see my grandpas face when he sees me shooting it and especially when he sees me successful in the field with it. I also have a 73 (I think) Bear Kodiak Magnum I got at a garage sale for $5 but have only duck and varmint hunted with it.

One of the things that intrigue me about these old bows is their history. I often wonder where they've been and what animals they've taken along the way.
Do not follow where the path may lead.  Go, instead, where there is no path and leave a trail.

That's how I feel too, I sometimes catch myself staring at my bow instead of watching the woods around me, doesn't happen with a newer bow...

Fred,
I have been out in the shop tonight working on that  Damon Howatt and made a string ,puffs, installed wool yarn down string loops, added a seal skin strike plate and made two tie on nocks  for it and this  thing is so  quiet you  could shoot a quiver full of arrows and a deer wouldn't even know if you missed      :biglaugh:   The bad thing is it belongs to a fella that's wanting to shoot traditional again and I want one for myself and   got bit by the Damon Howatt bug...

I am hunting with a 1963 Bear dogleg Kodiak. I am also using the appropriate quiver and broadheads for the time period of the bow. I thought it might be cool to hunt with equipment from the year I was born for the year I turn 50.
I hunt with vintage bows all the time anyway, but this set up is pretty special to me.

I guess a guy get's a little melancholy when he get's older, here's a hero pic of a 1952 Bear Grizzly.
Also the year I was born Chuck!!

Keith, You really need to get yourself one. Guess I'm going to have to keep  an eye out for one for ya.

Bert, Now that's cool!

Don't think there are many shootable bows from 1949....LOL

I still shoot the Howatt given to me by my Dad in '72. The last deer I killed was with an old Red Wing Hunter. I like the current bows just fine but not sure there's any real advantage to the newer stuff.

My 1972 Grizzly treated me well today!

I have other bows but this is the one I just "hit" with.

I grew up with Bear bow, then made the move to wheels like so many others. My son Charlie got me back to traditional.I started finding him bows and sending them to him. Now as was mentioned about being bitten by the bug!! Heck I have been infected,Never knew there were so many different makers years ago. I am afraid to count how many I have aquired now in a short time. Most are in cherry condition and love shooting them all.

I picked up an old Hoyt Pro Hunter that is going to see some field time this season.

Watch out for that bite!  If not treated you will acuire more bows!  I think I am up to 18 right now!

I picked up a pair of 50# 1972 Grizzlys for my son Tyler & I to hunt with this year.
I only shoot WOOD arrows... My kid makes them, fast as I can break them!
