Best method to sharpen Woodsman/Snuffer

I think I've found it.  Forgive the lack of picks or video...I'll have those posted eventually.  

The main issue with these broadheads are the fact that you really need to remove a lot of metal on a flat surface to get these to the point where they are easy to resharpen.  This is a pain in the but.  What if it didn't matter that there's a slight bevel in the edge of these heads?

I took a 1/2" diamond stick that came with my cutlery set...cut off the handle and put it into a 1/2" drive cordless drill I had.  Put it on the fast setting and pulled the broadhead from tail to head across the spinning surface of diamond stick.  Holy crap...a matter of seconds, all three sides are sharpened up scary like and no carpal tunnel to be felt.

Charlie Lamb did a tutorial in the "How To" forums a number of years ago.  It doesn't get any easier - even I can get them sharp this way!

But your method is one I hadn't heard of before.  Might have to give that a try as well!

Hey Doc,

No reason the blades have to be perfectly flat long as they're sharp. I've tried the same thing many times with ceramic rods of different grits but I was never able to get the BHDs as sharp as I had hoped. Haven't tried diamond though. That may be the ticket. I was trying the ceramic rods chucked in a drill as a finishing touch on BHDs that had already been flattened and sharpened though.

Exactly....don't have to be flat.  But to sharpen in a flat surface....they need to be flat.  The ceramic rods are what got my mind turning.  With the course diamond steel turning at a good rpm I can get more edge burr in one pull as it took me to do in 100 pulls across my hand.

Sharpining them on a grinder like the link Zbone put up, hollow grinds the edges slightly. That way when you touch them up on a stone or fine paper it will really get them sharp with less effort. I made custom folders for years and i will say be very carefull on a grinding wheel or those paper shrpining wheels. If it grabs your broadhead dont try and hold onto it, let it go! Ask any knife maker and they can tell some pretty bloody stories about things like that,lol.
