Surprising how much certain silencers can change things

I always use woolie whipsers that you can buy for 4 bucks. They are easy to use.
To be cheap I bought some wool yarn and made my own for a new string I twisted up. How different can a wool puff be right?  Gosh I was shooting all over the place! After a week of horrible shooting and frustration I put the old woolie wipsers back in the new string Bingo! She's shooting perfect. Maybe my home made puffs were a little bit heavier, but not any noticeable amount. They seemed weightless to me.

Once I get a set up "figured out", I do not change anything for that setup!

I was surprised myself. I went from woolie whispers to Bow Hush Hushpuppies and had to totally retune.

Weight/resistance/location on the string has everything to do with it.  Sometimes we are slowing our string down- actually losing some performance- while it seems like we have just "tuned" our bow.
If we're not supposed to eat animals ... how come they're made out of meat? ~anon

Bears can attack people- although fewer people have been killed by bears than in all WWI and WWII combined.

It can make an unbelievable difference, I use hush puppies and I use a whole one on each location on the string. I cut them way back so they are a fairly small ball when I am done. I shoot thru paper after each trimming until I get my perfect tear again. I do this with 3 strings so if anything happens I have a back-up string even to the back-up string! Shawn

It is a big deal and I think can be just one of the reasons we see people with the same bow have very different arrow requirements.

I have said several times to people that silencers are a way to change tune of you have an arrow and head weight you like but just can't get where you need to be with tune. Adding more can really stiffen up an arrow.

I once had a bow with fur silencers that came with the bow new.  They were recommended by thy boyer as the best for his bows.  Took them off a few days before season to wax the strong real good in the silencer area.  They were about 3"long and I wanted to get the whole string. I sat them down on the work bench for the night.  The next day one was gone. I looked all over.  Finally tried to use a couple other types.  Nothing was close to tuned or as quiet. I finally found the other one a few days later as part of a mouse nest in my tractor ballast box.
