Me and the wife spent a day this weekend washing and sorting camo and going through the backpacks. I've been sharpening broadheads and making some new arrows for the last week or so, got it all done tonight, two quivers full of razor sharp broadheads and arrows. Now I have 7 days and a wakeup till we are chasing elk and turkey. Would really like to be excited, but all I can think of is "WHAT AM I FORGETING"??? I traded some work days so we have 5 days next week and then 2 weeks later taking some vacation time and doing a week and will get to hunt a few days in between the long periods and after it, now I'm just hoping mainly for some cool weather, going to be a little warmer than I care for according to the forecast for next week, but will make the best of it!

Various bows, but if you see me shooting, it's probably a Toelke in my hand!

I know what you mean. Im headed to washinton state in 7 days for elk. I hope i didnt forget anything because i sent off my bows and gear this morning. My arms are hairless and my fingers are nicked from sharpening broadheads. I cant hardly wait.. I hadnt chased elk in 5 years so it is going to be great.

I know what you mean. I'm not heading anywhere all that far,but I am getting more arrows fletched up and sharpening broadheads and knives.

I am like you thinking about if I am forgetting anything.  I will be headed out to Wyoming Sept 10th.

Good luck. If you are concentrating on checking for forgotten items, you most likely will not forget anything important.
Remember:

1. Hunting gear. bow, quiver of arrows, glove/tab, arm guard, spare string, gloves and face mask. knife and sharpener, broad head sharpener

2. Clothes for both warm and cool weather, including base layer. Boots and plenty of socks. Also rain gear.

3. If camping tent, cot, sleeping bag, lights (with extra batteries) for both camp and use in the woods. Food, cook ware, water, and towels etc. including soap. don't skimp on food and beverage. fire starter. First aid kit & PERMANONE for ticks (permethrin active ingredient) plus mosquito repellant. No, DEET does not kill ticks.

4. Map, compass & GPS. cell phone if you have service available

5. Licenses and permits.

6. Safety vests and harnesses if using elevated stands.

7.Camera and extra batteries. Notebook if you keep a journal.

8. Make sure the homefolks know where you are going and when you are scheduled to return. carry all relevant emergency contacts and numbers.

Well, these are the highlights, and I'm sure you have it covered. Actually, I'm listing all this stuff, because it gives me a chance to imagine I'm going on a great adventure. Take lots of pics and post them. Good hunting!

Thanks all! Sam, if you come out elk hunting, you might need some mosquito repellant, but no worries about ticks hunting elk here:) I hate those damn things! And so far, haven't ever had mosquitoes during elk season, but scouting for them during the summer is a different story!

old_goat2, Thanks for the heads up on ticks out your way. They are so bad down here, it is hard to imagine that they are not bad everywhere. Anyway, good luck, and I still am thinking of additional items to take because I am still trying to imagine myself getting ready for wilderness adventure. Keep us posted on results and full details (including pics).
