Badlands Monster Fanny ideas

Heading to Colorado for an elk hunt next month and wondering if anyone has any ideas on adding another pack to this one for water and a few other items. Or... Would I be better off just getting the 35oz bladder and another bottle in the pack so I can use powder mixes in the bottle.
I really don't want a huge pack to stomp around in all over the mountain since we have a base camp to head back to.

The monster fanny has a place in the straps to put a bladder. I'd add a medium sized Gatorade in the pack and go.

I'm going in with the same day pack - bringing a nalgene bottle and a filter and drink as I go/need. I refuse to carry water on my back (its heavy!)

Great little pack, I use it all the time for a day trip. I am always surprised how much stuff I get in it. I tie stuff on top of the pack like a jacket at times too.

X2 on the filter. A LOT lighter and you can drink as much water as you want without carrying any weight. Of course you have to have easy access to water where you are hunting!! But if you do....that's the best idea and well worth the couple bucks invested in a quality filter. If you get stuck you won't run out and you can pack powder drink mix to add when you want.

That sounds like the ticket then. I have been contemplating this for a while now and you guys confirmed it for me. Thanks

I'd just get the small bladder that fits in the pouch and carry a platypus soft bottle in the pack if I needed more. It folds up to nothing when empty and weighs next to nothing as well. Of course if you have access to water a filter would sure beat carrying it!

BTW: Filter is old school. The newer choice is ultra-violet light pens. I just returned from a backpacking trip and loved it. Much faster, lighter, and easier than a filter - especially as the filter begins to clog.
I used this one.

with lithium batteries.
I also carried an emergency bottle of iodine tablets in case the batteries died. They didn't with two people drinking all we wanted for 5 days.
I likely will not use a filter again.

Yep, looks like a better mouse trap to me, that may be one of my next acquisitions

Just a note that UV disinfection relies on relatively clear water for the UV rays to penetrate the water. You SHOULD ALWAYS filter the water prior to disinfection.
Not downing the steri-pen, but you need to be safe.

I don't know. Guess I'm "old school" then. Never had a problem with filters as long as they are maintained. May have to keep an eye on the UV light but still seems the filter is taking a lot more out of the water before I drink it. Just me I guess!!
I'm still using my old PUR Scout and it just keeps pumping along!!
